Sickening story here. I got the letter too. Dad and I are on the same account with his mailing address at 85308. Last week, I asked him if he would go if we were offered, but he said he couldn't afford the trip. I told him that if we got the offer, I wanted to go, but I understood if he didn't want to join me. In his absence, I arranged for my daughter to join me on the trip.
So the letter comes today at a lower price than we originally expected ($525 each), and I ask him again. Is he sure he isn't going. He says no, but he's looking forward to making quite a profit on his ticket. I reminded him that it was his granddaughter who would have to pay any profit he asked for, and he said we should discuss it later.
I tried to drop it, but I just couldn't. I'm a nice guy. I've taken them on a Disney World vacation, I bought him a pool table, when family members are short, I provide money, and now he wants to soak me his scalping fee? I mean, if he just asked for money outright, I would give it in a second (I'm not rich, but I'm not broke either, I'm just a bleeding heart liberal).
After a while, I get another call letting me know that I'll get the ticket at face value, but he sure didn't appreciate the pressure I put on him to give up his profit.
He is a fan who has, in the past, decried the frugalness of the Bidwill family. Tonight, Bill was a lot more generous than my dad. I've never been so disillusioned.
