Pitchers never start every game of the season anymore. So, this is a shout-out to Gallen for his time here (and the hope to retain him). In the long season, it basically means nothing.

But I can see both sides.

Burnes pitching a day later means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. I think this was more of a gesture to Gallen for his time here than anything. Burnes and Gallen have mutual respect for one another.

He's not happy because he has to skip his start now. Luvello didn't bother to learn Burnes schedule and Burnes planned his spring training starts with the idea of being the opening day pitcher. So the entire rotation is off now and Burnes will debut on the road.
