Jenkins is a stud WR, anyone catch the game against ASU?

While he was a 'reach' according to many, I think this is the type of reach you go for, not Irvin. (though Irvin running around Levi doesn't seem like a stretch)

Anyways I bring it up because I was thinking, hmm I wonder if the niners just screwed the Rams out of ANOTHER WR.

Then while scouting the niners various boards I came across this.

Rams miss out on Jenkins

ROFL...Yes this is a post irrespective of all their extra draft picks. I just find it hilarious that people keep picking off their WR's

I'm glad we got our replacement for IN. :)

and we will jump them while they will be restricted in their movements and we will cross the goal line more and get more kings while they can only get queens :)

As of now we've added more than they have.

I thought Kiper said it best, they lost out on Blackmon and Floyd, and by trading down left Claiborne on the board.

They got lots of picks, and for sure there is tons of talent still out there, plus the future picks, but so far all they've done is lost out on the best talent in the draft. Brockers is solid, but they did pass on RG3, Claiborne, Blackmon, and Floyd to get Brockers.

Let's see what they do, they definitely have a shot at adding talent, but they sure passed on a lot of dynamic players. Without the extra skins picks, many would be scratching their heads about what they are doing. Be interesting to see how it plays out, gotta love the draft.

Yup.

Stockpiling picks is probably one of the most overrated strategies of all time. I like to say it as acquiring more players but less talent.

Ram fans, though, are ticked right now. One should look at their forum. All they keep saying is that "we drafted another DT again, and what have they gotten us" lol. I mean they are really depressed and could care less about the stockpiling of picks because they have no faith in their scouting staff in selecting players. Those poor guys wanted Blackmon or Claiborne and then when they traded out, they were wishing for Floyd or DeCastro and then...well, you get the idea when they did pick :)

Dont really think it matters what we do.

The Rams FO is clearly superior to everyone else in the NFCW. They are building a contender.

theyre playing chess while we're all playing checkers.

??

They got screwed twice by Jacksonville and Arizona, not seeing the true genius here.

Wow, the Rams spin machine is in full swing today. Apparently, they would have taken Brockers at 6, but were so saavy that they traded back to #14 and still got their guy.

Yeah, that is why Fischer almost blew a gasket when Jax took Blackmon - who was their target.

They had no clue that he would be drafted before #6 - he was their only target.

Well, they said they were also targeting RB at 6, but with Jackson on the team, that would have been a luxury they really couldn't afford.

The Rams misery is my joy

Every Ram fan cussed when Rodger announced the Cards were taking Floyd

more players doesn't make a better football team....high end talent is more important....

IMHO the Rams outsmarted themselves by thinking 'we are winning...we are getting every pick and then some...let's keep this rolling. The Cards will take an O lineman and we still get Floyd and we are off and running. O (you know what) they took Floyd...what the blank is going on...you blanking fool...you said we'd still get Floyd after moving back."

and don't get me started on SF....a slot receiver rated 8th best on most boards...

IMO the Rams likely thought Floyd was as good as Blackmon and that they could get him later so they traded back.

They outmaneuvered themselves and walked away from round one without a difference maker.

I'm confused, as usual. On one thread we have posters saying the Cards messed up by taking Floyd because there would be WRs almost as good available in the later rounds and on this thread we have posters saying the Rams messed up because they didn't get a WR in the first round.

He's a helluva slot receiver. He's worth the pick imo. He was the guy burning ASU last year in their win against us to start the tumble down. Solid pick for the niners imo.

What's funny though? Maybe you missed the link earlier, he was the Rams WR choice after Floyd ROFL.

So the Niners just screwed the Rams out of a WR. ROFL. That's thrice and two of three are in the division. It also will account four games a year they have to see their mistakes up close and personal.

Everyone chirps about BPA for the Cards, but when we analyze the picks for other teams, we fall into the trap of assuming that they are drafting for need. The difference is simple:

We have the best WR in the NFL and a serviceable WR corp. The Rams got squat besides Steven Jackson on offense. Who's Bradford going to throw to in that offense, the same scrubs he's been failing with the last 2 years? They need a game-changer #1 WR, we just need need a #2 to take pressure off of Larry. That is the difference.

Whether he is good or not is irrelevant. The kid had a 3rd round grade according to many draft experts and was considered a BIG reach. You don't take a guy in the first that most assuredly would have been there in the 2nd and maybe the 3rd.

So they came up with an elaborate scheme to videotape themselves in the event that Blackmon and Richardson were taken before 6 and then moving back in the draft to 14 (when they could have traded with multiple different teams) with the possibility that Floyd was gone too before they picked?

Or do you think they were serious that they wanted Brockers?

I assume that he wasn't aware of the video and was speculating that Brockers wasn't the intended target. Sans the video evidence i believed that as well.

I still fully question the pick. Im a strong believer in outside in drafting philosophy and dt is just not a high value position.

I can't watch the video at work, so I was going off of the text only. I now think they targeted Brockers and I think they are idiots for doing so.

Fair enough.

I'm not going to say the Rams were either brilliant or idiotic.

Several thought that Fisher would stay with his roots and draft a DT at 6. The value on the board did not truly align with this philosophy. Taking Blackmon would have helped but find me a pundit that thinks he is as good as Julio Jones or AJ Green from last year.

I would think they would have preferred Cox over Brockers but none of us know that for sure.

They have 3 2nd rd picks where there is a ton of value in this draft. The Rams have holes EVERYWHERE and desperately need to get quantity and quality. They will be able to do that over the next 3 years.

They did get lucky in regards to RG3 coming out this year and having the 2nd overall pick. They did a great job of turning that luck into incredible value so no stones thrown by me.

I'm not worried about the Rams being a threat for a couple of more years and that's only if Bradford pans out.

Yes and no. The accounts were the Rams were going to take him, they have three picks of the next 13. There's lots of accounts, not everyone sees them all. I found this gem on a niners board. I'll post it again.

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/foot...cle_02ddc12d-b649-5ef0-84f4-02f6487fb11d.html

One of the reasons the Rams were not overly flustered about missing out on wide receivers Justin Blackmon of Oklahoma State and Michael Floyd of Notre Dame is they felt they have very good wideout options at the top of the second round.

But one of the most-coveted of those options, A.J. Jenkins of the University of Illinois, was snatched away by San Francisco with the 30th pick — or third-to-last selection — of the first round.

How coveted?

League sources told the Post-Dispatch on Thursday afternoon that the Rams liked Jenkins so much that his grade wasn't much different than the one given Blackmon by the team's personnel department. Blackmon was the first wide receiver taken in the draft, going No. 5 to Jacksonville (which traded up with Tampa Bay for the pick.)

Not only did Jenkins make a pre-draft visit to the Rams in early April, he was one of at least four players the Rams engaged in private workouts last weekend. Backup Rams quarterbacks Kellen Clemens and Tom Brandstater threw to Jenkins in Champaign, Ill. (According to the NFL, private workouts must be conducted on the player's college campus.)

Read more: http://www.stltoday.com/sports/foot...649-5ef0-84f4-02f6487fb11d.html#ixzz1tGfH5yfX

So while he had a 3rd round grade, he wasn't going to make it, and the niners knew it. They snatched him from the Rams, and while there is still WR talent on the board, the Rams have gotten three WR's they wanted snatched just before them (or a couple of picks).
