He's not staying, they'll either agree to a buyout and pocket the extra cash or flip him for another contract somebody wants to get rid of. His contract is actually somewhat valuable in the current economic climate.

I see value no matter what direction they take. They just need to take it. This franchise is dragging their knuckles like cavemen.

It's Hill that will cut into the MLE, not Frye. Reports are that Frye will be signed with the biannual exception. We don't know what Hill's getting, but it's probably at least $3 million in the first year. That would leave ballpark $2.5 million for another player. Wilcox would be a good target, but a defensive big man would be better. Is anyone left?

Got it. I read the reported Frye contract incorrectly. Read it as 2 years for 3.8 per year when it is really 2 years 3.8 total. Which fits the bi-annual amount exactly. So we have about 500k more of the MLE then I originally thought.

I like Wilcox coming off the bench as a rebounder and he already has a start at knowing the run-n-gun having worked under D'antoni. Still wouldnt be an awesome 4-5 rotation but I would feel better with Wilcox and his decent rebounding added to Frye's jump shoot, Amares Offensive skill set, Amundsons hustle, and what ever the heck Lopez is.

Well, now that the Nash/Hill/Frye issues have shaken out I'd be willing to guess you see some more moves. Namely working on an Amare extension and getting some value back for Wallace. Now they at least have a direction (whether you agree with it or not) so you'll see a correlating plan implemented.

As much as Nash's defense makes me vomit, Dragic isn't ready. Keeping Amare, Grant, Nash and adding Fyre, and 2 more players using the rest of the MLE and Wallace's/Pavolic's contracts will allow us to compete in the West

But I doubt we flip Wallace's contract and use up all of the MLE. Sarver is just going to spin it and say "Look, we kept all of our guys!" :bang:

3 more years of Nash double teaming a big man (yea that will stop Duncan from taking over?) to leave his man wide open?

This is why I was upset the Suns let Jannero Pargo go for what amounts to peanuts to the Bulls.

Compete for what in the West exactly? A playoff spot? Not likely. Maybe an 8th spot and an early exit again? That is not competing IMO. Unless you count competing for mediocrity.

Or ...Nash getting our bigs into foul trouble....or Nash forcing the team into horrible rotations trying to cover his man that blew by him. Looking forward to it. :sarcasm:

This team could be so good next year if they would just give Ben Wallace some 'roids. Seriously, just do it.

Its funny. The Wallace of 5 years ago makes this team a legit title contender.

I'd be down for the plan if they actually had some intention of using Wallace's contract. Unfortunately Coro just reported that they are near a buyout, so instead of using our only trade asset of any value to cover up an obvious weakness, interior defense and rebounding, Sarver's on track to pocket the money. Wonderful.

I love how every offseason there is the standard BS about improving the p and r defense, and getting tougher, and we're going to be trotting out the same product next year.

Unless there is a corresponding move to improve our interior d and rebounding I can't see how anyone can be happy about any of this. Who is going to start other than Stat at 4 or 5?

Earl Clark? A 3 in a 4's body?
Fropez?
Dudley?

I really hope these moves include a corresponding move to bring in a big, otherwise we may see a lot of 120-133 games next year.

What are you talking about? The financial flexibility is allowing this team to shore up our middle with Frye. :sarcasm:

Insider Scouting Report:

Frye's biggest weakness is his defense, as his lack of muscle and toughness permit opponents to steamroll him around the basket.

The one big negative in Stoudemire's game is his defense. He's a poor help defender and tends to pick up cheap fouls. His effort level was particularly awful early in the year but picked up quite a bit as the year went on. As mentioned above, fouls tend to be a big differentiator with him -- if he gets a quick two, he'll don a toreador outfit for the remainder of the half.

But the good news is:

These moves are being coordinated with the negotiation of a contract buyout with Ben Wallace, acquired with Sasha Pavlovic in the Shaquille O'Neal trade. Wallace and the Suns are close to finalizing a $10 million buyout from the $14 million salary he is owed in the final year of his contract. If that is the final amount the parties negotiate, it would save the Suns $8 million in all ($4 million in salary and $4 million in luxury tax) if the Suns exceed the tax threshold again next season.

Once the Suns waive Pavlovic and save $3.45 million of non-guaranteed salary on his contract, the O'Neal trade will wind up being worth almost $18 million for Phoenix, including the trade's initial payroll savings and the tax savings that would bring.

We may have the worst interior defense in the NBA, but at least we'll save almost 18 million dollars!!! We will probably not compete for anything, but on the bright side we can rest easy with the knowledge that our franchise saved a lot of money!

LOL! But that would not help his sub 50% from the line and no offensive skill set. Just means he would be able to shove Artest further into the court

Well...think of it this way guys.

We got back Stoudemire and got Rid of Porter.

STAT had one game with Gentry as coach and put up 40 (IIRC).

We kept Hill and added a good rookie. Frye is decent backup. Better than Burke or Hunter or some of the other guys we've put out there.

Now if we could just get rid of Richardson I would call it a posetive off-season.

Grant Hill stays!!! I find that the best news this far for Phoenix! Such a classy guy is just a blessing to have on a team. And if he can stay healthy, 3m must be considered a bargain.

As for Nash, I am happy he stays but agree about 33m being more than he should have asked for. I sometimes don't get NBA players. You made tons of money (more than your future generations can spend) and argue about 20 or 30 million bucks.
I'd rather take less money and have the team hire somebody else with the available salary cap.

I don't know why everybody wants to trade JRich. His stock is at an all time low. The best thing the Suns can do is try and light a fire under him and get his stock up. Then decide if you want to trade him. If he can get his head straight he could be a real difference maker this year.

I agree and the notion of getting rid of J-Rich makes no sense. He put up good numbers despite the shenanigans in the organization. His best seasons have been in high paced offenses a la Golden State, which is what Gentry wants to run. Plus, you hurt the depth on the bench as Barbosa would be slotted to start at the 2.

Oh, and apologies to Mulli... :championship:

Guess Grant cares more about PT than a championship.

actually the reason g hill came here in the first place was because he said he didnt want to ride duncan or anyones coat tail to a championship.

Now the shooting guard position. The door is wide open for a lockdown type of defender at the 2 to make the team. You can sometimes find these type of guys in Europe or on summer league teams (like Raja).

Any ideas on a defensive 2 through trade or whatever.

By the way. Alot of rosters are putting Clark as 3rd option at 3 and 4. I believe he will get more time than that. I can't wait for summer league. It sounds to me like Clark plays a Larry Nance type of game. That would be a great fit on this roster.
