If Graves did say we would not consider any high priced FA, as someone suggested, then that is stupid even if it is true. It indicates to players we are cheap and makes not only the expensive players but the middle line players less likely to even talk to us. Surely the guy did not say that did he??????? Someone please clarify.
He didn't say that or that we wouldn't be active in free agency. He said that we wouldn't be AS active in free agency as the past couple of years.

Nidan, I know it sounds like that, and I would say it's because there are some people on here so very desperate to defend our

I just can't stand the fact that Graves is already hinting that we won't even consider any high-priced guys. Well, guess what? The FA with the most talent are going to cost the most. Sure, there can be bargain surprises, but why limit yourself before you even start?

You have been around the track enough times to know that you should not believe everything you hear or read....No we are not going to spend $80 million on a DB but sit tight and watch it get played out.

nidian instead of threatening why dont you police the other threads on here instead of picking a fight and calling mod rule when you get opposed. Hence the reason some sit on the sidelines now instead of posting

Who - if not Edge?

While 90 or so ground yards per game isn't exactely Nirvanah, it was good enough to contribute to a 12th ranked offense and better than those bad old days when our average ground yardage lingered in the seventies.

My point - Whatever we decide to do at RB - I don't want to go back there. Things were pretty awful then and I'd hate to see us return to that kind of mediocrity.

If not Edge, what are our options:

- Marcel or JJ? (I like them in support roles, but don't think either can fill Edge's shoes as our feature guy).

- A Veteran via Trade of Free Agency? Maybe. But: What would we have to give up, and what would it cost us in comparison with what we'd have to pay Edge if we kept him. Would the cost for a comparable RB be that much different?

- The Draft? McFadden is expected to be gone well before #16 (which, based on his less than scintillating performance against Mizzou might not be a bad thing). Depending on who else comes out, perhaps a guy like Jonathon Stuart or even Temple or maybe some other diamond-in-the rough Keim uncovers later in the draft.

Whatever we decide, we should avoid sawing off the limb we're sitting on. The idea is to improve our team/not shuffle guys in and out just for the sake of change.

It was not 80 Mill. It was 64.02 Mill. Last year is voided if he makes the team in 2008. The most overblown and overreacted contract by the media and the fans to date.

So was their supposed spending spree. It is all about how the contracts structured not the total value of the contracts. Do not trust or believe the totals that the agents tell the media. They werent even in the top 5 of spending teams last year, they were 7th.

For example Condon is getting his players 20 Mill in gauranteed money right now. (remember Gauranteed does not mean gauranteed, it just means all bonuses added together and some bonuses you do have to earn and are not in fact gauranteed) But if you look at the structure of the deals they are really not that great of a contract for his players. But the 20 Mill number looks good and he uses that as a selling point to get other players to sign with him.

The Cardinals have 34 players under contract (The least amount of players under contract in the league) with the 9th most cap space at 30.27 mil. They need to sign a lot of players, wouldnt be surprised if you see no big names just a lot of fillers and depth. The most this team will improve is through the draft and coaching changes. This team needs an A+ draft.

I strongly disagree with your FA sentimens, Jeff. We should not go high-profile just for the heck of it. Fact is, though, a few of the 'high-profile' FAs that appear to be worth the big bucks are in fact players at positions of desperate need (G and CB). Why shouldn't we go after them? If we were in cap hell, I'd agree with you. We aren't. We're hugely flexible in what we can do, and I think we'd be crazy not to improve the roster as much as possible. I mean, we wouldn't even need to mortgage the future to do it, so what would be the problem with chasing Faneca and Samuel?

What scares me is the post that we are last in number of players signed at 36. There has to be a message in that? I can live with 20th or something like that but LAST? Is this part of some plan or a lack of a plan on Graves part? It seems each week I see some good team signing a good player on their team to a 5 year contract. It seems like it always the good players they are signing while we appear to be motionless. It is often written on this board that due to the fact we are the Cards we are going to have to pay more. I do not know but suspect that is true. We should be somewhat better now that we have a new stadium that is full, new coaches, and had a least an 8/8 improving season. We still have to live with the Bidwill curse be it true or false it is certainly out there. Only winning will make this go away.

I would think that signing Dansby would be so high on the list of things to do we would get it done. Same with some of our other key players. Sure we can keep him for another year but probably not as a happy player. We have all been conditioned to expect the worst when it comes to signing FA's or keeping our good guys. We need something to show us this has changed and that indeed we are a changed team even though we have the same owners. This is going to be a telling off season for better or worse.

Misleading. Other teams had more players under contract becuase they already shelled out their futures contracts to their PS players and other EFA's. We just now did that this week. We now have just as many players under contract as the rest of the NFL, 41.
