I would have liked to see him get out of that 7th without a run, he ERA would have been around 1.80, now its back over 2, but oh well. I tought he might struggle a bit after a 2 week break but he was back to his usual self. Left the ball up a little more then usual, but with his movement it didnt matter. Also, great game by Hammock, he continues to impress, going to be a solid player for us. Might get some starts at third if Shea is out for a little bit, but i really like him in right.

I've been impressed with Webb since his first start - the way that ball just moves, man! This season, besides Kim, he's been the pitcher I've been rooting for the most. Unlike when Dessens pitches, I don't get that uneasy feeling in my stomach when Webb's on the mound.

Go BW! :)

Good call 32, you really know your stuff. Nothing better than a girl who knows her sports. From the beginning, you could tell that Webb was going to be good, with his start in NY against the Mets. His movement is awesome, almost as much as Koplove, and his poise is excellent. Webb and Good look like solid starters for years to come. Patterson has been less than impressive, with his curveball breaking hard, but never getting in the strike zone, fooling nobody. It's hard to envision him being a star, and Edgar Gonzalez fits into the same category. If Randy and Curt get back in time, a top three of Randy, Curt and BWebb would have to be tops in baseball.

Heh, thanks. Gotta thank my dad for getting me into sports.

I remember watching Webb's 1st start in NY and thinking 'holy crap, where did this guy come from - that slider is amazing' - I was not expecting that perfermance from him, let alone on his first major league start.

I agree with you on Good. At first I wasn't too sure, but his last start gave me more confidence in him. And again, I agree with ya about JPat. I havent seen enough on E.Gonzalez to really have an opinion.

I remember watching Channel 12 and they had Good and Webb on the show, and they said they with Koplove, all share an apartment. I thought that was kind of neat having 3 of the Dbacks rising pitchers all share the same apartment. :)

Yeah, wonder where they're living, opprotunistic young ladies would figure that out.....Oh well, once they get their big contracts, I am sure they'll still be living together...

I'm sure they are liking payday lately, since they are on the ML roster, they get a nice raise... it may be pro-rated, since they have not all been on the roster since the begining, but I know the ML min is more than what they are making in Tucson!!

I wonder if Brenly will start Robby at third while Hillenbrand will be out a couple of games?

I would not be so quick to judge Edgar - the guy is what, 20? If it were not for the million injuries to pitchers we had, he should still be in Tucson or El Paso.

Hye I love the start Webb has had, but don't you think it's a little premature to say this kind of stuff? I mean didn't we have Patterson penciled in at #3 after he smoked the competition last year. Let all those guys get healthy and actually pitch together against division teams, then I would think there would be enough time and games to be able to make a statement like that.

Hell I remember some people on this board saying that Randy, Schill, Dessens, Kim and Bautista were arguably the best pitching staff in baseball. What a joke that statements was - espcially considering how bad Curt and Rnady looked at the beginning of the season.

I like Patterson, and still think he can make it as a solid #3 or 4, but he never showed the consistency and confidence that Webb has shown up here. I dont thnk Webb is going to end up with an ERA of 2.20 like he has now, but when he can throw that curve as a strike (he usually can) and knows where the sinker is going he is incredibly hard to hit.
Im not even going to judge Edgar Gonzalez yet, he just turned 20 and is in just his second professional season with the Dbacks organization. He has really been on the fast track. I didnt expect to see him until at least September next year. He has great stuff. He throws somewhat of a sinker, but not nearly as much movement as Webb. We really didnt get to see much of his other pitches, but thats why hes back in the minors. I was impressed though that when he needed it, could throw the fastball in the 95-99 mph range.

Agreed, he is still young, my perspective though, is that watching Edgar, compared to Webb, it is much easier to envision Webb being a quality starter for years to come. Edgar Gonzalez looks to be another Dessens type starter, with a high eighties-low nineties fastball, and not too much movement on his ball. How successful this will be against top MLB competition, and whether he can develop other pitches will determine how good he can be. The other night, it looked like he was pitching BP.....

Well, in regards to Patterson, I think the hype was always much greater than the reality. Patterson never really smoked the competition last year, 2 wins in five starts. His ERA was good, but in reality, these were teams that had never seen him. He pitched twice against San Diego, the first time dominating them, the second, getting hit pretty bad. Many writers had Patterson as the rookie of the year, assuming that he would continue his progress. Clearly, that hasn't happened.

I believe that either Batista or Webb would fill that third spot quite well. Webb has pitched in eight games, and in 49 innings has given up 12 earned runs, and struck out batters at almost one per inning. Another positive sign, he pitched seven innings against the Phillies, giving up three runs. He faced them one week later, and gave up one run, clearly showing that it wasn't just the novelty factor.

With Miguel, even with very poor games as a reliever in the beginning of the season, his ERA is still under 3, at 2.87. Watching Miguel break bat after bat, it is clear that his movement is as good as ever. The problem with the d-backs clearly hasn't been the pitching. We are 7th in batting average, 11th in home runs, 9th in RBI's, and 11th in total runs. While their pitching statistics aren't significantly better, injuries are a major factor of this.
