My only knock on Dennis' personnel prowess has as much to do with Cardinal personnel policies during the past few decades as it does Green.

Namely that we get rid of a lot of players (as in most cases we must) but we get nothing in return. Examples: Pete Kendall for zero. Anthony Clement for zero. Did we get a player or draft pick for Corey Chavous? Did we get fair value for Thomas Jones? Did we get fair value for Simeon Rice? Did we get fair value for David Boston? Did we get anything for Wadsworth?

Admittedly, several of these examples involve injuries or other extenuating circumstances. But my point is that getting nothing for something (whatever the reason) eventually wears away a team's talent base so that we always seem to be in a rebuilding mode - one or two years away from being really good. Other teams experience the same problem, but I think it's more characteristic of the Cardinals than it is most if not all successful teams.

It continually puts the wind at our front.

Point well taken and absolutely true. Much of our problems stems from not managing the talent we already have. We have drafted some good talent that was gone in very short order. For a team to grow it must retain much of its talent. We have not done that and this is a management and talent evaluation problem

Does anybody ever get fair market return for a player they don't want anymore??

Did the 9ers get fair market for TO??

Like a garage sale, when it becomes known you no longer want it, nobody is going to offer up much. Taking it off your hands is reward enough.

Certainly taking All Pro Simeon Rice off our hands was not reward enough. Many people on this board were not happy to see Thomas Jones leave for little compensation. Like it or not we could have used Pete Kendall and most certainly could have used Garrison Hearst. Just because for some strange reason we do not want a player does not mean that he is worth just giving away.

Agreed. Draft-wise, he is among the best. When it comes to applying this talent, I don't know if he has the leadership skills. I want him to succeed. I want that more than almost anything. But he isn't showing that. If only he could find coaching talent like he does playing talent.

Green proved himself at Northwestern and at Minnesota. He is a good coach. He's not perfect, but he is good.

Personally I think Ross has been better then Shelton. Ross gets his share of FS's but he has been blocking well. Is Clement even is this league, how are we supposed to get something for someone, no one wants to begin with.

In all the examples of "nothing for something" I mentioned, a case can be made for whether or not we could get fair value in return.

My point was that, in terms of sheer numbers of players who fall into that category, it seems as though the Cardinals have a lot more of these situations than other NFL teams - particularly the ones who've been the most consistently successful.

Is it "bad management?" Is it poor evaluation of talent? Is it "bad luck?" I don't know. But - if my perception isn't faulty -it happens to us more than it does other teams.

Over the long haul, it has to gradually erode the overall talent level on our roster and make it difficult to improve as much or as fast as we need to.

Hearst was a cap casualty - if I recall that was a tough decision for the Cards at the time as they would have liked to keep him.

The only person I can even fit into this category is Simion Rice. You think Thomas Jones is a great back he just broke 1000 yards for the 1st time in his career. He was worthless then and he is now. I wouldn't want him back if he became a FA again. The guys a cripple half the season and just sucks the other half, whenever he's here. Ole Pete Kendall the Savior, what exactly has he done. The Jets are what into there 5th QB, lmao with ole great Kendall at Center. So basicly Petes incompetence, terrible line calls, and terrible protection have gotten 4 QB's killed this year, but he is great. Pete sucks, the only thing he's good at as talking. We'll maybe not even that so much. Yeah its just so dreamy to think if only Kendoll stayed and manned our Center position. Who would we have at QB now?

We have no more talent leave then other teams.
