ESPN's Chris Mortensen was just asked on Sportscenter where Edgerin James might land and Mort said, "The talk has been Miami and Tampa Bay...but...the one team to look out for...is the Arizona Cardinals...Denny Green has been wanting to acquire a running back the caliber of James...and they have the cap space and the draft picks."

Wow! Can you imagine? Even Steve Levi the Sportcenter anchor said, "Man, will we believe we are watching the Arizona Cardinals?"

Yeah, I just saw that same thing!

That would be crazy. And for less than a 2nd? Pull the trigger!

Well lets look at each team:

Maimi - Dont have a 2nd rounder but they do have Surtain. But Indy doesnt have cap to bring in Surtian. Out of the running unless the give up their 3rd and a future pick as well.

TB - They have a 2nd rounder higher then us, But do they have the cap.

AZ - TB has 2nd rounder higher then us but could we throw in some D players such as Ray Thompson or something else to beat out TB's higher 2nd rounder?

Thats an interesting thought....

Ray would help the Colts, and it wouldnt bother us to let him go... That is a heck of an idea...

We all need to stop and breath for a moment.

Mort didnt say we were interested he "speculated" that we "could" be.

James for a 2nd is fine by me.

Heck, throw in Ray T. (good thinking Joe)

Heck throw in Marcell Shipp as well, just to get it done. They would need RB depth if Edge was traded, plus getting rid of Ray and Marcell would open up even more cap space.

Was he tendered a franchise contract?

Yes, and is worth 8 mill.

He would have to sign it to be traded, then we would have the 8 mill cap hit on us, but then we most definently would renegotiate.

IF you are thinking we dont have the cap space we could use the 4 mill, that I set aside in my spread sheet to help cover it, then worry about renegotiating with Edge, and making our cuts and trades after words to get back the rookie pool we would need before the draft comes around.

I'd think we'd need to do a sign and then trade before we deal. Mainly to make sure he wants to be here. And to see how the deal fits (exactly) into the cap.

I'd think we'd want to roll the dice and see first if one of the big three fell in the first round of the draft. But for a second round pick it'd be tempting. It's just alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
tied up for one guy. Not sure I'd do it now. Maybe if we'd allready won a division title and wanted to take the next step. I just think it'd be more prudent and wise to see if one of the top 3 guys fell. And much cheaper too!

James is only 26... this team would be a CB, OG and a few other depth positions away from a serious playoff run

Wow this is great !! This places the Cards in a great situation for one of two reason. If they get Edge then look out. Even if they do not then Miami or Tampa will pass on a RB if he goes to either team. That in turn will leave us one of the three RB's at #8

Dude .....put down the bong! The idea of Edge is very appealing having Shipp as the 2 headed monster!

There is one problem however...

Guess who James' agent is...

Yup...

You guessed right:

Drew Rosenhaus.

Hes high on Shipp for a reason. Hes better than Hambrick. Just because Hambrick signed doesnt mean he will make the cut. If Green is judging talent based on talent/performance and not paycheck then Hambrick will be a goner.

Shane, I know you have this odd love for Shipp, but would we really re-sign Hambrick if he was to be a "goner?"

Shipp is very expendable right now, and he counts about 1.8 towards the cap. IF, and that's a HUGE if, we were getting EJ, I think Shipp might be packing his bags, and we pick up a RB like sproles later in the draft.

And Shipp isn't all that talented. Didn't Denny already have him benched for your favorite player, Emmitt, once already??

Apples and oranges, but anybody here willing to give up Boldin for James? May come to that, or play hardball with Quan.
