Green is not known for his compassion with players. Plus he has a GREAT eye for talent.

With the new coach comming in who on our roster goes and who on this roster stays?

Gilmore, Clement, and some others should be shakin in thier boots.

BTW - Green is also not one to choose character of talent, he does the reverse actually. I see a clash with the owners.

Peace

Thats why I love Green, Coach Mac was not mean enough and put character over talent, I'd take Talent over character any day.

Smith, Parsons or McCown, Gilmore, Poole, McAddely, Dishman, Davis, Wakefield, KVB, Rogers, Banks, McKinnon or Darling, Barrett, McDaniel.

Those are the cuts I see. He will get rid of our backups and get guys that could replace our starters and reduce them to the backup role.

As for "Wrong gap Ronnie" McKinnon, sorry, Jim O, but it's time for him to go. Being a liability in pass coverage and making 6 or 7 big plays and 45 bad ones just doesn't cut it.

1. I hope you mean Russell Davis and not Leonard. (Whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2. I think he'll (we'll?) hold onto Emmitt, McCown and KVB and wait to see how they peform in preseason before laying the axe to Wakefield, Mac-Dawg and possibly Parsons and Barrett.

3. In some cases, you don't want to cut certain role-players without knowing whom you plan to bring in to replace them.

He would have to resign Barrett if he wants to see him during the preseason. Barrett is a UFA this year.

After the draft, I said Hayes would turn out to be the best pick, Boldin the second best. So, I was a little wrong! :) But, I obviously agree with you about Hayes. Except, I think he should be in the middle. Even so, without his injury, I think he would've have gotten more playing time as the year went on even without Thompson's suspension.

There's almost bound to be surprises for us all as Green molds his team. Some guys will be kept who we think should go, and vice versa.

I was a little surprised to see Blake on TV last night being very positive about the hire. But, I guess, why shouldn't he? If he can convince Green to give him a chance, he probably thinks he can turn it around. I mean, if Green could win with Sean Salisbury, why can't he get a good year out of Blake? While a young gun is groomed?

This is going to be a real interesting offseason.

I think Smith will be back with Green's blessing. He said RB was a strength of the team. Besides, Smith has only one more year on his deal.

Lay off the pipe, Rugby. Please find a block of marble and chisel it in stone:

ANTHONY CLEMENT WILL BE AN ARIZONA CARDINAL THROUGH AT LEAST THE 2004 SEASON

Read the game analyses by Gary Jones from the Bears and 49ers games. It might have looked like Clement was out of it, but Gary's reviews seemed to suggest taht he was coming around.

I don't know when what you had against the guy turned into a personal crusade, but it's hard to find quality RTs in this league, and that's what Anthony Clement is.

I do think that the cuts will be either Barron Tanner or Russell Davis, at least one of the "belly of the team" offensive line aquisitions from last season (including Raleigh Roundtree), probably both Fred Wakefield or KVB (but maybe only one), at least one of the bottom-of-the-depth-chart corners, two of Bryan Gilmore, Jason McAddley, Kevin Kasper, and Nate Poole (Maybe three), and probably that OLB that we signed from the practice squad at the end of the season.

Oh, one more: either Damian Anderson OR Josh Scobey are outta here. Green is going to want to bring in at least one running back with legitimate speed. Remember: His last first-round pick was used on Michael Bennett, argueably the single fastest player in the NFL.

We have four runningbacks who are all basically the same. Minny under Green had three guys who all had different skills and talents. I'm looking forward to a more diverse running back corps.

These RBs are actually very much unlike each other. I always liked Anderson's shiftiness, Scobey's speed and Shipp's power. These runners are mostly one-dimensional though (though I personally think Shipp is best suited to our OLine). A situation like they have in Minnesota and Philadelphia where multiple running backs are used according to certain situations would probably be best.

Also about Scobey/Anderson lacking speed, Scobey was timed at 4.42 at the combine, M. Bennett was at 4.41. Bennett is a little more compact and powerful and also has better vision than Scobey, but their speed is essentially the same. Bennett is hands-down the far superior runner becasue he is closer to the whole package but Scobey's speed is equal to his.

That may be well and good, and I EXPECT Anderson to be shiftier and Scobey to be a little faster, but when I watch the games, all the RBs look the same to me. Maybe that was the coaching or the O-Line or the playcalling, but neither really distinguished themself as a "great back," including Shipp, who I think is going to have mild injury problems throughout his career, and will never be able to handle the full-time load. He can be effective for about four games at a stretch, but is quickly beaten down and loses his effectiveness (Fred Taylor had similar problems, but the upside with him [could take it to the house every time he touches the ball] was so great that he remains the Franchise back in J-Villy). I would not be at all surprised to see the Cards take a running back in the first or second rounds in the 2005 draft.

I never really saw that speed in Scobey, even during his returns. It's possible that while he has good speed over distance, he's not very "sudden" out of a standing start. Bennett has great acceleration out of the backfield (which he has in common with Mike Vick, really) and so can outrun LBs coming around the O-line. Scobey may be able to keep corners and safeties off him, but he needs a lot of daylight to get up to speed. That's why he lasted so late in the draft, I guess, and Michael Bennett was a #1 pick.

I think the 4 RB's all had their own unique characteristics. The only common denominator all too often on running plays was the lack of explosion on the part of our O-line.

Our guys were constantly being pushed into the backfield. (Granted, it was an improvement over recent years, but it still happened too often).

- Shipp is more of a pounding north-south presence.

- Emmitt is lighter and more of a slasher with great vision who knows how to wiggle through holes and turn negative yardage into something. His biggest value last year was as a stabilizing veteran presence to help out McCown on passing downs

- Anderson too is lighter and more of a slasher who also has surprising strength to break tackles once in the hole.

- Scobey is somewhere between Anderson and Shipp. I view him as "adequate" but expendible - unless he prove to Dennis that he has one or more indispensable qualities (the way Anderson has done in Dallas).

K9 - No one's debating who's the better back. But even in Minnesota Bennett doesn't get all the carries. Moe Williams and Onterrio Smith got carries based on different situations. I think something like this would be best here. Andy Reid, Mike Tice, And Belichick have shown you don't need to have a dominant all-tools RB to have a successful running offense. Seeing how many other holes we have on this team, I think the RB by committee could be our best option this year.

Oh, Denverbirdfan - could this scene be re-enacted in Flagstaff in August?

Why wait take Cobbs from Ark in the Third this year the fourth for certain if he makes it that far down.

But Bennett's was hurt, too. I think we'll see Bennett as a pretty dominant back next season, with Onterrio Smith spelling him, and Moe Williams working goal line situations. There was a reason that Bennett lead the NFC is rushing yards in 2002.

I'm still not sold on the RB-by-committee approach. I think that it has more to do with the sub-par runningback situation in the NFL today. There is definately a "have" (KC, SD, MIA, BAL, MIN) and "have not" (DET, ARI, CHI, PIT, NE, PHI, SF) look to the NFL running back situation league-wide. When was the last time that there was a REALLY GOOD runningback draft? Maybe there's one coming, but it's been a while. There are a lot of teams in the league that don't really have ANYONE that they like toting the rock more than 10-15 times a game. It's not as bad as I just made it sound (Green Bay has an amazing running game, and I love watching all three backs get carries during games), but it's definately not good.

This year, I do think that we should give a lot of backs a lot of carries this season, but I hope that we can rely more on the 3-step drop, quick pass. I'm just not sold on ANYONE on our roster.

I would not be quick to pull the trigger on David Barrett. Put hin with a defense that is good and he will be a lot better. We had no rush and our DB's were under constant attack. We do not want to pull another Corey Chavous.

A lot better, yes, but good enough to justify Duane Starks-type money? I don't think so. If he'll take nickel corner money, sign him. If not, let him sample to cold reality of free agency.
