Anyone have any idea the coaches Green wants for his staff? It seems like all of his former coaches have moved up in the ranks or to other teams. Who would he want as OC and DC?

Monte Kniffin's contract is up I believe (atleast it is in Madden 2004 :D) He used to be Green's assistant in Minnesota

...the coach of one of the greatest defenses in recent history isn't such a bad thing to have here. He can leave Simeon Rice at home though

Monte Kiffin is the Cardinals' DC in year two of the franchise. We are currently 9-2.

I think Kiffin will be tied to Tampa Bay until the end of next year.

Kniffin's contract was extended before Madden's release. He's making something like $4 mil per year. I think he's locked into Tampa unless he gets a head coaching gig (which I don't think he really wants) or goes to Nebraska to coach them.

What about Ted Cottrell? He has been linked to the SD and MIN D-Coordinator posts, but Schottenheimer and Tice may only have one year left if they don't turn their programs around.

If Green were hired, you would think it would be for at least four years. That would be some nice security for a potential assistant coach.

I really like Cottrell. I think that he'd be solid here. I wanted Gregg Williams, but he's already been snatched up. I bet the DC will either be Cottrell or Jauron (I think that him and Green were on the same staff together in Green Bay?).

Cottrell got a raw deal with the Jets. He was the scapegoat.

Remember that Cottrell was D-Line coach when we had the "Big Nickel" under the late Fritz Shurmur.

He helped develop Eric Swann, Michael Bankston, Mike Jones etc...

I would think that if Kiffin were to go anywhere it would be to the Colts under Dungy.

Kiffin was one of 4 coaches "held over" from Jerry Burns staff when Green came to the Vikings in 1992. He served there as inside linebackers coach.

In 1995 he left to become DC for Jim Mora in New Orleans. The very next year (1996) When Dungy got the Tampa job, Kiffin immediately left New Orleans to Join Dungy as his DC.
He remained with Dungy until Dungy left. Dungy wanted him to come with him to Indianapolis, but Tampa refused to let the Colts interview Kiffin.

Cottrell hasn't done a bad job with the D-linemen they got on the Jets:

Shaun Ellis: 69 Tak, 49 solo, 12.5 Sk, 0.5 TfL, 1 FF
John Abraham: 32 Tak, 25 Solo, 6 Sk, 3 TfL, 1 FF
Dewayne Robertson: 43, 35, 1.5, 2.5

We could use that kind of coaching here. He'll have to have good secondary and LB assistants, though, because those units were nothing nice in New York.

Anybody think if Dennis Green is hired he would bring former ASU and Eagles player Eric Allen with him from ESPN as defensive backs coach?

Cottrell (DL or DC), Rich Rodriguez as our ST coach, Sully back as WR coach.

I don't know who is is or isn't available, but isn't Lewis still in limbo?;

What's the deal with Chris Spielman? He'd be an interesting looksee as LB coach.

But most of all (even more than a QB tutor) I want someone who turns out great cornerbacks. Anyone know anyone good?

Oct '03) The new Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League have named Chris Spielman as Director of Football Operations. Former OSU head coach Earle Bruce will coach the team. Former Buckeyes Jim Lachey and Jim Karsatos (both members of the OSU Football radio broadcast team) will also serve in the front office.

He would be the perfect choice for any coordinator...As someone who grew-up as a Lions fan and watched him play, he was probably one of the most dedicated athletes I've ever witnessed.. He would spend hours in the "tape room" and possesses the best leadership skills possible....

I don't think any coaching position is safe in the NFL these days.

For real. A four-year contract is only really a three-year contract as it is.

I say that from a contract point of view. You can get fired and still get paid.

I was informed on another board that Richard Soloman, an assistant coach under Denny Green in Minnesota, was bad news but a Green favorite. A google search didnt turn up much on him at all except for a reference to a sexual harassment charge...anyone know anything about him?

Heard that Carl Hargrave also with Denny at Minnie Ha Ha would jump in a minute if called to coach the DLIne or LB...He is solid and would add to the staff a great deal. He is coaching Div II.

From local Rag

Among the possible candidates for key positions are Baltimore Ravens assistant Jim Colletto, who could be the offensive coordinator; and former Minnesota and Atlanta assistant Emmitt Thomas, who could be the defensive coordinator

also, I heard June Jones' name mentioned as OC

Probably.

Seeing as Rich Rodriguez is the WVU HC, I dont think he would resign to take a special teams position.

(Although after their bowl appearance against Maryland perhaps he should consider it! :D )

Spielman wouldn't come to Arizona. He's on the local radio everyday here and there's no way he'd leave the area.HIs wife has been battling cancer for years and he won't uproot his family. But one guy who he does talk about alot is Ted Cottrell. He thinks Cottrell is the best defensive coach he played for and highly recommends him for HC jobs.
Now on another note, the Cards should avoid Jim Colletto like he's the 2nd coming of Dick Jameison.Colletto coached at OSU under John Cooper and then took the Purdue HC prior to Joe Tiller. The only good thing is that Green will probably be mostly in charge of the offense. But Colletto is big time NO.

Lewis was fired by the Steelers the other day & would be a solid choice as DC. I would narrow my DC choices to Jauron & Lewis. OC is a little more complicated as their are so many great offensive minds out there. The key is who the DC will be. Just like we needed an experienced HC, the same can be said for DC. Also. Green's area of expertise is offense, so we won't need as much help in that area.
