Green's history tells ME that he was/is stupid enough to not learn that feeding his ego eventually took the Minnesota Vikings on the road to the toilet bowl.
He inherited a talented team, managed to have SOME decent key assistants.
But couldn't even keep them. Randy Moss saved his bacon to a degree, or he would have possibly been run out sooner than he was.
.
It got so bad that the team decided it was in ther better long term interest to pay him off just to get rid of him. McCombs paid a big price to get him out the door.
Notice also the fan response he got on his "glorious return" to Minnesota.....

Until he proves any different from being someone who will ultimately sacrifice all other things to give his ego a boost, "doing it again here"...is not likely to be in the best interest of the Cardinal team and its fans.
I think Green's so called ego let him have the confidence is his abilities to draft Randy Moss after most of the league was afraid of him.Bill Walsh is one of the biggest egomaniacs out there. Besides none of us know how any of these coaches are in real life.We are all basing our opinions on a few press conferences and interviews each year.To act like we know how they are in real life is making very big assumptions.

What?
I appreciate all of the responses and have come to this conclusion.

If Denny loses, his ego, will be the reason and most fans will point to that as the reason for the failure.

If he wins nobody will point to his ego as to why this happened. It will just slide into the Denny Green is the greatest coach who ever lived stance.

Hmm, it will be fun to watch!

Speak for yourself there, Lone Ranger.

No way in hades does he make me proud of his ego, no matter what the team does.
Nor will any ego maniacs ever make my "favorites" list.

 .

FYI

Pro Bowl numbers:

Green had 21 different players with a total of 48 selections not counting kickers/punters. 1992-2001

Cards had 12 different players with 17 total selections not including kickers/punters.

Didn't list kickers/punters as couldn't find source that included Vikings special teams players that may have been selected. Cards had Camarillo(3 times) and Player(1) not included in above totals.

Note that in Green's last 3 full seasons with the VIKS his postition players grabbed 20 selections while Arizona had 3.

Isn't the goal to win the superbowl?
Isn't anything any less than that, in that respect, still failure?
If you don't get to the superbowl, what real differences does it make whether you were 2 games or 6 games short?
Especially to all those who keep posting.....Win, baby, just win...at any cost?

Just for the record (not that it really even matters)...just how many more pro bowl appearances did "Denny Green players" make than Cardinal ones?
Inquiring minds would like to know?

Id rather spend 3 years losing in the NFC championship game like th eeagles than be 4-12 every year. Superbowl schmooperbowl Id be happy with having a chance at the playoffs every year.

So you are saying that the 1998 season wasnt a much more fun season to watch for you becuase anything other then a superbowl is crap. But hey we didnt make it to the super bowl and not making it to the playoffs would have been just as fun.

I dont know about you but that year wasnt a failure, it was fun as heck.

I would like to see it again, but hey if its not the superbowl why bother going to the playoffs in the first place.

There is a big difference between 2 games short and 6 games short. One version you get the fun and thrill of the playoffs, the other you get to start on your mock drafts a little early.

I want to see competitive football.. with competitive football comes wins and maybe even a little luck..

I just dont realize where this ego talk all started. What has DG said that most football fans thristy for a winning team would want their coach to say?

"We will go to the playoffs"? "We will be 10-6"? "We want to be in the top 5 in offense"? "I have a proven system"?

Man when you are trying to sell a new program you have to display confidence. What should he have said?

This isn't sunday school... You have to have an ego to play in this league.. problem is we dont have enough players with a big enough ego.

Sure he could have used different words to relay his feelings, but does that really matter at this point?
If your whole argument is that his ego will ruin the team... lets be honest.. how much worse can they possibly be?
