Report: Gretzky out as Coyotes coach if Reinsdorf gets team

According to a report in the Toronto Sun a condition in Chicago Bulls and White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf's bid to buy the Phoenix Coyotes is that coach Wayne Gretzky leaves the team.
Gretzky, who has coached Phoenix for four seasons, but has yet to make the playoffs, is set to make $6.5 million next season and $8 million the season after that - a number inflated to secure his spot as a part-owner of the team. The report states Reinsdorf is not interested in paying a coach more than five times the average salary for someone in that position.
Despite recent reports claiming Gretzky backed Reinsdorf's bid, the two have yet to meet to discuss the future of the franchise.
A hearing to decide who is the current rightful owner of the hockey team - the NHL or Jerry Moyes - is set to take place Tuesday at 1 p.m. PST.

It would be a godsend if reinsdorf can talk control - he'd hire professional hockey people and point this franchise towards winning, which is all it really needs

rumor has it that reinsdorf could partner with bruckheimer and they would want a potential out clause for vegas ........ seems a little crazy though

also that another potential investor has come to light, can't remember the name off hand though

I think its a possibility... Bruckheimer has been rumored to be shopping around for a Vegas team for years, maybe he sees this as his best chance since expansion wont be happening anytime soon

You are absolutely right! And let us not forget when Jude La Cava interviewed Jerry Moyes, Jude was not an inpartial journalist, but a Jerry Moyes rah rah fan! Pathetic! Jude, you are not fit or honorable enough to comment on this gentleman's game of hockey. I am soooooooooo disappointed in you....now that the Coyotes will remain in Phoenix, albeit Glendale, why dont you follow that crooked weasel Jim Basillie on the next boat to Canada! One of these days AZ will perhaps have a real sportscaster qualified and dignified as our beloved Bob Vache was- may he rest in peace.

La Cava is terrible, he had a great opportunity to ask some tough questions and instead threw up a bunch of softballs. Ugh...

Now that the team is staying at least one more season, please, please, please, FIRE GRETZKY!
