The offensive game plan was a joke.

The execution of the game plan was almost as bad.

The defensive game plan was even worse.

The execution of the defensive game plan was poor, the tackling worse.

Better team game planned right, better team executed their game plan right, better team tackled, better team won.

The Bears defense was horrible. What kind of defensive coordinators and coaches develop a plan to limit a team to plays of "just" 8-10 yards with each pass completion? Never mind the running game.

The announcers were right towards the end when the Bears were running similar plays as the Colts and gaining 2-4 yards. Huge difference.

Though it's amazing that as horrible as the Bears played on both sides of the ball, they were in a position to win until that interception return for a touchdown.

*Edit

Actually take away the punt return and the Colts handily beat them. I don't know why they kicked to Hester in the first place. Only mistake of the night by the Colts coaching staff.

The Valley so low.
The upside of this is, the Bears had the best record in the NFC, and had a pretty good claim to be the best team, flukes notwithstanding. If the Cards get a few holes filled and if the Whiz does an adequate job coaching, we are a few lucky breaks away from being an NFC-champ-calibre team! In '07-08!

grossman never looked that good, only that bad--jake was famous for comebacks-as far as i know grossman has yet to lead one

On the flip, Grossman threw 23 TD passes this year in his first full year, it took Jake 8 years, 7 full years to top 20 TDs, and he's still only done in once in 10 NFL seasons.

Grossman's wins they're usually out ahead, Jake's comebacks were because we were always behind.

Can't ignore Grossman's shortcomings

February 5
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti: "So, who's ignorant now? Rex Grossman called out the analysts who wondered why he throws hideous interceptions and fumbles simple snaps, then responded in his defining game by throwing hideous interceptions and fumbling simple snaps."

On Cold Pizza they had Jon Ritchie the ex Raider FB on and he just ripped Rex. Said Griese should be starting, said they wouldn't let him get "Rexy" in the first half but they had to throw in the 2nd half and then he gave the game away. Said the snaps were "bush league", that's Pop Warner stuff catch the snap first then pull out. Said both fumbles were "nerves", not bad snaps. Just really took him apart.

Yes, but after that game I would think enthusiasm should be a little cooler concerning paying Lance Briggs a ton of money to come here. On the other hand, again after that, he's probably ready to move on to better pastures.
By the way, I was one of those thinking of a Bears win before the game. Congratulation to the Colts - they did good on a rainy day in Miami.

I was. Colts are not who I thought they were. :)

That's the problem with the Super Bowl. You have two weeks of hype in which a lot of people talk themselves into thinking the underdog has a chance. In reality, the extra week is an advantage for the better team. The last time I truly convinced myself a big underdog could win was the Chargers against the 49ers. No more.

I don't think the guy puts in the work he needs to during the week. He looks lost. Physically he has the tools, it's in the mental dept. that he is lacking.

Just a Plummer clone with a little stronger arm!

Grossman didn't lose that game by himself. The Bears play calling was gutless. Receivers couldn't get open and couldn't hold on to the ball when they did. The entire Bears offensive scheme is so simple, Boise State would stop them.

And that defense was a joke. Take away Urlacher and you're left with 10 players who can't tackle.

you said a mouthful and many points made sense...some...eh???
the defense was really bad...two hand touch..they win....grossman is not the only nitwit around...play calling was terrible...the only they win is if they kept running game in place...not pass on 2/1...staying in a cover 2 all game against manning is suicide...what do you expect (duh) but him to pick you apart under the zone.

which came first chicken or the egg...bad defense that couldn't get the offense the ball OR bad offense that goes 3/0 all the time and defense has to come come out..exhausted.....in some..but not much fairness to grossman...even though he has been around for 3 years or so, this was his first real full year of playing...i seriously doubt though that the bears give him a long term deal and wait and see what happens next year.

lobo, I thought Lovie Smith set up Grossman to fail by only allowing him to throw only 8 passes in the first half. But I admit I'm biased, I don't like the Bears.

a very strong point.....i don't like name calling and finger pointing...the bears performance was a group failure...and grossman had a very big part in it.....i really don't know if he has the head to process the information before every play that must be done in about five seconds....he has a good wing but continually makes the same mistakes all the time...throwing into double coverage continually is inexcusable....no he is not fast and can't move to well, but he has to get out of the pocket somehow....he is not a good third down qb at all.....BUT he is essentially a rookie....they had to go with him and not bring in griese.....why don't you like the bears or another way of saying it ....did you not like pre the fiasco game we endured???

Neil O'Donnell and Craig Morton feel left out.

i am not a grossman apologist and if he were our qb i would go nuts because he makes the same mistakes over and over again BUT here is a guy who just played his first season for all practical purposes and was the qb on a team that went to the superbowl....now that sounds pretty good.

he has a solid wing but has not figured out what throwing into 2x coverage is yet...i don't think he is garbage and don't feel it is fair to call him garbage...let's save that stuff. he had a very bad game...particularly in the fourth quarter...but do we know how much of what he did was a result of the game plan...his inability to audible (if even allowed to)...his inability to process what he has to do on a timely basis...who knows...all i know is that he will be the bears starting qb next year.

I don't see how anyone couldn't see this comming.

If I bet on things like this I'd have bet big on the Colts that is until I saw it was raining, that's why I don't bet on things like this, if I see that rain I'd have a heart attack, I expected the Bears to win in the rain.

Then again the biggest game early on in the year for Grossman was MNF and all he did was choke as badly as any QB I've ever seen.

His skills are fine, he's a head case QB that can't take pressure, that's a very bad combination for a QB to have. He might grow out of it and be fine but IMO I doubt it.

That I seriously, seriously doubt.

i raise you one seriously....i am sure of it...no it will not be garcia (the bears or any sane team is not going to invest that much money in 3 qb's) no it will not be griese....if this were matt and he played (say) 16 games would do you think we would run him out of town??? i seriously doubt it. again, i am not an apologist for the guy but he was at the helm for an awful lot of wins and looked very bad in half of them and very good in the other half..but for all practical purposes he was a rookie...he has one year left on his rookie contract...will he get an extension...i doubt it highly...but he will be no.1 next year. the fourth quarter of the game was a horrific event for him...meanwhile they were in the superbowl.....and we were in the toilet bowl..
