Looks like the Duke for sure. My first thought was Rio Bravo, then Rio Lobo, then El Dorado. Not sure which one it is as they are basically the same movie. Rio Bravo is my favorite of the 3 so I'll go with that one.

Yep, it is Rio Bravo.

The shot is a common one in a lot of John Wayne movies, popularized by The Searchers.

Rio Bravo is my favorite John Wayne movie. And I've seen a lot of them.

That's a great pick. Probably my second favorite. First is obvious for me, and I also love McClintock! and Donovan's Reef quite a bit.

Donovan's Reef is a really fun movie. Similar to McLintock and my #2 John Wayne movie, Hatari!

McClintock, Big Jake, The Quiet Man, Rio Bravo, Chisum, The Shootist, Rio Grande, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, Rio Lobo, El Dorado, Sands of Iwo Jima, Stagecoach, Hondo, Fort Apache, Fighting Seabees, Angel and the Badman & Fort Apache for me, and roughly in that order.

I'm a big Duke fan and I'm not trying to change anyone's mind here but I've truly never understood the love "The Searchers" gets.

The Searchers is possibly Wayne's darkest movie, and as far as the filmmaking goes, truly classic. It does get a bit ridiculous with the romance aspect, but the way that John Wayne portrayed his protagonist was something that simply wasn't done back then. Up until that very last second, he was going to kill Natalie Wood. That's pretty dark and so well played by Wayne.

El Dorado is good, but it's essentially a remake of Rio Bravo. Wayne really wanted to play the drunk in that movie, but was convinced otherwise. That would have been fascinating IMO.

The rest of your list is pretty good too--Angel and the Badman is in the public domain so its hard to find a good quality copy is tough--but the same could have been said of McLintock! a few years ago until Paramount got their hands on it and remastered it. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon to me is still one of his top 3 acting performances in his career.

I would add a couple other movies like They Were Expendable and two flying movies, Flying Tigers and Flying Leathernecks. Another flying movie, Jet Pilot, is awful and not very believable when they cast Janet Leigh as a Russian spy. LOL

^^As I said, I'm a big John Wayne fan so I watch The Searchers occasionally, just to see the Duke, but the movie itself is very overrated IMO. Same with True Grit although I like it more than The Searchers. Non-Wayne fans seem to think TG is perhaps his best movie because of the attention it was given but that was more lifelong appreciation than anything else IMO.

Here is another movie the year I met my wife. It was the 2nd movie we saw together. (maybe this should be in the "boring post" thread). :)

I don't recognize the movie, looks to be late 70's, although that might be a little early for Amy Irving?

My first movie with my wife (or wife to be, actually) was The Poseidon Adventure. I got carded, not at all embarrassing. A week later we shared our first movie as a married couple while on leave before being sent to Germany. It was Billy Jack at the Round Up in Scottsdale. My wife was a New England girl, she did not enjoy her first 108% evening at the drive-in.

Yeah, my wife is from the bay area and she is still trying to get used to the high temps.

^^I already had to look it up, it's just not something I've ever watched. I remember the title but nothing about the movie itself.

Same here, heard of it but never seen it. Didn't Willie Nelson have a song with the same title?
