As for the topic.

Damn right we are going to miss DRC. Whether he was good for Horton's system or not, the kid has amazing ability.

Peterson is going to struggle, we know Toler struggles, and Money Mike is not the answer, and neither is AJ Jefferson or Marshay Green right now.

They need a vet CB, just in case. To not sign one would be a big mistake this year, just like QB (to a lesser extent this year).

I love Carlos Rogers to be brought in, but I would live with an Eric Wright, or Al Harris on one leg even.

For sure, but I have been wanting more veteran CB for the Cards since 1988.

:mulli: I really didn't think DRC, was really all that terrific! Good, but surely not great, too much negativity on our chat board at times.

Has DRC ever locked up a receiver in the past? I don't think of DRC as a shut down corner.

Without a pass rush it really doesn't matter who we have at corner. The Card had better bring someone in that can actually get to the QB.

It's harder to say in Davis's system, because he kept the CB on one side of the field. So frequently you'd have teams put their best guy against Greg Toler and burn him over and over and over again.

And the same excuses for DRC's play apply to Toler, right?

Some of them do. Obviously we've seen DRC play really well; I'm not sure we have seen the same from Toler except in very brief flashes (like during the New Orleans playoff game. There's also a reason that one was a first-round pick and the other was a fifth(?) round pick.

But Toler suffered from the same lack of a pass rush last season as DRC did. I'm not sure that Toler has punished opponents for picking on him over and over again the way that DRC has in the past. But some of the same reasons for underperformance apply to Toler as well as DRC.

That's not fair you can't ask him to go back in time a year and cover people.

No you see this is how it works, last season he didn't have a good season, a fact that was discussed at length on this board. Which was one of the reason so many fans wanted to draft PP because DRC took a step back.

But see when he gets traded, that affords people a new opportunity to hate the Cardinals, to bash the FO, to cry about the coach, and thus DRC goes from being ok, to being the best CB in the history of football and there are threads created about how we're going to lose BECAUSE DRC is gone.

Apparently we didn't need a veteran Pro Bowl cornerback as much as we needed an average quarterback with some upside. So I thought I'd take a look at the WRs we're going to be depending on Patrick Peterson to lock up in one-on-one coverage this year:

Steve Smith
Hakeem Nicks
Mike Wallace
DeSean Jackson
Michael Crabtree (probably twice, since we don't face San Fran until Week 11)
Miles Austin
Sid Rice (Twice!)

I've been told multiple times that our season is not going to depend on the presence or absence of an above-average cornerback, but 9 games are going to be against pretty dynamic receivers.

Apparently we were trying to make Nnamdi cover these guys. Let's not assume this is the final roster when there are still starting caliber players out there?

We did. Bryan McFadd.......LOL I can't even type it out.

Actually, we signed one of the best CBs in FA in the time in the early 2000s. Duane Starks. We all know how that worked out. This is why people need to relax with free agency. It's a crapshoot. We sign starting caliber players and they suck or are plagued by injuries or at best under-perform (Starks, Edge, Oliver Ross, Al Johnson). If we'd signed Nnamdi he'd probably have gotten hurt every year he was here.

The guys who seem to work out for us are guys who are young enough to still play but that no one else believes should be starting anymore (Warner, Berry).

What is this based on? Your fever dreams? Whis was asked whether the Cards were going to look for a veteran corner in free agency, and his reply was, "I think we just drafted a corner." What do you think that is supposed to mean?

Nmanmdi is apparently an Eagle now. I don't care what the Cards tried to do, Patrick Peterson better be blanketing Miles Austin come December.

I'd be willing to bet he gets more out of DRC in one season than Whis and his staff did in three.

I'll take this bet. Especially with Namdi there now. Dude is gonna be picked on ROYALLY!

I don't think Horton's scheme is going to rely on PP being on an island vs the other team's top WR. And Steve Smith and Sidney rice have nobody to throw them the ball and crabtree doesn't deserve to be on the same list as any of those other WR's. So far he hasn't proven to be anything more than a solid #2.

I don't know why you are taking what a coach says in a press conference at face value, especially during free agency.
