I'm,by no means, any scout but watching on TV, the guys who impressed me the most at this week's combine were:
Tracy Porter-cb, can cover anybody
Leodis McKelvin-cb,very impressive.in fact most the CB/DB's looked very good including Terrell Thomas,Godfrey, from Iowa,Cromartie, Lee,from Auburn, and Chevis Jackson
Don't know his name, but the LB from Kentucky he looked quick and was the best during drills
Lawrence Jackson-de, looked explosive
Hawkins from Cal-wr,the only WR to distinguish himself
Sedrick Ellis-dt,he's better than Dorsey
the DE from EMU,Jones??,seems to be ery athletic
Dan Connor-lb,about what you expected
Jordy Nelson-wr,great hands and always open. A Ricky Proehl type
Carl Nicks-ot,big and mean
Trevor Laws-dt, alot of time he was in the backfield
Darrel Robertson-OLB/DE,i really like this guy. Could be a 3rd/4th round gem
Gosder Cherilus-best OT there

the guys i was most disappointed in were:
Shawn Crable-LB, have had doubts about this guy all along
Barry Richardson-OT,got beat about every time i saw him
Colt Brennan-QB, i may have a stronger arm
Djuan Tribble-CB
Ali Highsmith-he just looked very small
Thomas Decoud-S, Cal
Sam Baker-OT

it was hard to judge any RB's. There was a big TE,6'8, that looked pretty good. I don't know if it was the CB's being good or the WR's being bad but the WR group,as a whole, struggled.

There was also a TE from USC (name?) that seemed quite fluid with good hands.

Nice thread title. I thought I'd missed the game somehow. I guess I'm just getting old.

DeCoud is a tweener he essentially played like a LB at Cal always up on the LOS so I'm not surprised he struggled at the Senior Bowl practices since they're probably asking him to play S. He has some talent but he didn't play a lot in coverage at Cal.

Agree on Hawkins, been touting him for 2 years he's not the freak athlete Jackson is but he's a very smooth WR, has good hands and pretty good size. If he runs a good 40 he'll get picked higher than people suspect I think.
Jordan the other WR from Cal is the exact opposite, very good athlete not a very good WR.

I think he will be there in the second round and would be a great fit for us. He would instantly be our nickle back now that Rolle has moved to FS.
We don't need aother nickle back...all we have are nickle backs!

Okay, maybe I exagerate, but we don't have a good #1 on our offense.

Put a more consistent pass rush in front of them, and all our #2 guys are going to look better. There just aren't that many "good #1s" in the NFL for each team to have one. And there isn't one in this draft.

I think that if you put Samuels on another team, in another system, he looks a lot like Roderick Hood (whom FootballOutsiders said well outperformed his contract and was one of the better corners in the NFC this year). He's not a shut-down-half-the-field guy, either.

Cromartie impressed me the most (nice size/made plays) If he runs faster than 4.50, he'd definitely deserve consideration to be on our Top 16 list.

4.50 is very slow for a Top 16 cornerback. Antrel Rolle ran faster than that at his Pro Day.

yes -- as evidenced by Corey Webster and Aaron Ross of the NY Giants

competetent corners no doubt, but hardly elite players by any stretch. Add in the fact that safeties for the Giants are pretty average as well, and the true value of the Giants pass rush is shown.

You gotta be able to bring consistent heat. Any secondary can get torched at this level.
