Barnstable softball pitcher Madison Flynn made a name for herself on Friday in the season opener.
Flynn pitched seven innings and struck out 14 batters for the Red Hawks (1-0) as they beat Nantucket (0-1) 14-2.
Jazlyn Coyer played well in the field, and walking three times and scored twice at the plate. Sara Ormston, catcher Jordyn Green and Marissa Nardone each had three hits.
In other high school sports action:
Randolph 14, Mashpee 2: The Falcons (0-1) fell in their season opener on the road after trailing 2-1 after the second period. Ashlynn Diauto had the lone hit, Jordan Eagan recored on RBI, and Callie Dunn scored both runs for Mashpee.
Sandwich 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 2: The Blue Knights (1-1) picked up their first win of the season as they beat the Dolphins (0-1).
Andrew Emmel defeated Landon Richter (6-1, 6-0) in first singles, Liam McLaughlin and Finn Whelden defeated Ryan Clarke and Aiden Karras (6-4, 6-3) in first doubles, and Oakley Gully and Colin MacQuaide beat Matthew Anderson and Ben Soltis (6-2, 6-3) in second doubles for Sandwich.
Collin Caron defeated Quinn Johnston (6-3, 6-0) in second singles, while Michael O'Reilly beat Joey LaScola (6-4, 6-4) in a two hour matchup for D-Y.
Cape Cod Academy 5, Barnstable 0: The Seahawks (1-0) kicked off their season with a sweep over the Red Hawks (0-1).
Ben Catalano defeated Dean Cordeiro in first singles (6-2, 6-1), Ayden Naydenov beat Harry Baroni in second singles (6-4, 6-4), and Declan Livingston won third singles by default.
Connor Hall and Garrett Wilson won first doubles over Seymour Singh and Chase King (6-0, 6-1), while Henry Daigle and Rowan Lewison defeated Kaleb Jones and Stephen Hurley in second doubles (6-0, 6-0),
Sturgis East 3, Sandwich 2: The Storm (1-0) edged out the Blue Knights (0-1) in the season opener for both teams. Darya Cheglaka beat Abby Binienda in first singles (6-3, 6-1), Martina Garcia Raya defeated Senja Kravitz in second singles (6-1, 6-1), and Kathleen Murphy and Amelie Rudy won second doubles over Izzie Bar and Quinlan Graff for Sturgis East.
Cora Tedeschi beat Brooke Gardner in third singles (4-6, 7-5 (11-9)), while Sadie Clarkin and Casey Pestilli teamed up to beat Marissa Texeira and Isabella Hartsgrove for Sandwich.
Barnstable 17, Mashpee 7: Shelby Locascio and Emelie Jonsson each had five goals and two assists) for the Red Hawks (1-0) as they beat the Falcons (1-1).
Kayla Grady (three goals), Claire Kayajan (two goals, one assist), Caroline Curley (one goal), Giovanna DeToledo (one assist), Caroline Meins (two assists), and Annie Richardson (first varsity goal) also contributed ojn offense for Barnstable. Morgan Mueller finished with 14 saves in goal.
Rockland 12, Sturgis West 1: Cora McDade had the lone goal for the Navigators (0-1) in their season opener. Goalie Cecilia O'Connor had 29 saves in net for Sturgis West.
Nantucket 15, St. John Paul II 9: The Whalers (1-0) came out on top over the Lions (0-1) in the season opener for both teams.
Dennis-Yarmouth 8, GNBVT 3: The Dolphins (1-0) won their season opener for the second straight season.
