Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall announces team will replace both DARON SUTTON and MARK GRACE in TV booth. http://vbs.cm/R0K2jJ

It is being reported in Chicago papers that Cubs announcer Bob Brenley and former Diamondback Manger is wanted by Diamondbacks. I sure hope not as I think Bob is one of the best announcers in baseball. As a former catcher and Manger their is not much he does not know or has not experienced. The Cubs are horrible but WGN is on large market so who knows what Bob may do. The new Cubs owner seems to be a cheap guy so how that will play into this?

If the Cubs want to keep him, do the Dbacks want to spend the money to get him?

(no idea, if bidding wars ever happen for announcers)

One of the real good guys in baseball and who has superior knowledge. We got rid of all our good players so our new idiot VP Theo Epstein may just send Bob to Arizona. He fired most of our coaches, nearly all our scouts, and the firings continue while his office staff grows by leaps and bounds. I sure hope we do no lose Bob Brenley. Other than the Dodgers long term announcer I think Bob is right there with the best. Good announcers bring more people to the tube and are worth major money. Worst announcers IMHO are the White Sox duo.

Epstein in spite of his tenure with Boston is the Cubs answer to Graves.

I would think bidding wars would occur for these guys as they are the face of the team and can bring millions to the tube. WGN is one of the largest stations in the world. I suspect Bob already has lots of money and has been in Chicago long enough to have established roots. If it came to a bidding war I think WGN wins out. I bet Bob has some strong feelings for Arizona. Was he fired or did he leave on his own? That could play a part in this. He has been looked at as a manager several times while with the Cubs and even interviewed with the Cubs for the job. What might tilt this in favor of Arizona is the Cubs are so bad and not expected to be any good for 4-5 years according to Theo Epstein. About the only reason I watch the Cubs on TV is Brenley and his partner. Both are A+ announcers. Announcers are big in Chicago. We even have a statue of Harry Carry in front of Wrigley and Jack Brickhouse has a flag in the outfield. Ron Santo also has a flag and was our radio announcer for many years. Santo would walk over hot coals for the Cubs and was as biased as they come. No owner would ever think of firing him even after he lost both legs to diabetes. Not a great announcer but a Cub hero on and off the field. He had a job for life.

If Grace is fired and Brenley goes to Arizona it might be that Grace replaces Brenley. Grace is a great favorite with Cub fans and likes Chicago.

Bob Brenly is leaving the Cubs broadcast booth.

Dbacks need to go after Matt Vasgersian or Victor Rojas.

I met Bob Brenly once. I was working on a TV commercial for WGC, as a grip, during Spring Training a few years back. A bunch of Cubs were in the spot (though Ryan Theriot is the only one I really remember) and so was Brenly. His giant shiny 2001 ring was shining in the sun all morning.

You're not really supposed to be wearing a purple D'backs cap when you're working on a Cubs/WGN spot. You're also not really supposed to bother the talent but I went up to Brenly and shook his hand and told him 'thanks for 2001' and he was extremely gracious and friendly.

I'd be very happy to have him back in the booth over the woeful Sutton/Grace combo.

I met Brenly a few years before he managed the Dbacks at a Phoenix Giants/Firebirds function. Very cool guy.

Brenly is the best color guy for the DBacks. It woudl help ratings IMHO. I have a feeling that is Brenly moves on somewhere else, then it will be Candiotti and Greg Schulte next year and they will look for a new radio crew. I would not be surprised to see Brenly go back to coaching, like maybe Boston?

Bickley and MJ just confirmed it. He and Brenly. Sounds pretty good to me.

I'm pretty happy about this. I think the style of the last pair was a better fit for the NBA, but this one seems like a good match to the sport.

Agreed, A+ job to Derrick Hall or whoever was responsible. Im looking forward to a professional sounding booth next year.

Maybe Sutton can go find a job with the Hillsboro Hops.

I checked a few videos of Steve B on ESPN. Here is one.

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8014870

He sure sounds like the opposite of Sutton -- the Ego that roared, who made everything about himself.

And, of course, we know that Bob Brenly is great as a color commentator.

It should be enjoyable!

I thank Greg Schulte and Gonzo who made it plausible for me to listen to the TV announcing as well as watch it, instead of listening to the play-by-play on radio while watching the time-delayed TV feed rather than the self-promoting of Sutton and Grace.

Schulte and Gonzo sucked. They were so boring I had to mute them on many occasions.
