To everyone on this board who wears or has worn the uniform: Thank you. I do not have the words to say how appreciative I am for your service.
To my nephew, Zane, Bless you. Stay safe. The dryer sheets and paint brushes are in the mail. To my husband, Steve, to my brothers Mike and John who all did multiple tours in Vietnam: Bless you. And Mike I'm not forgetting what you did in the Gulf. John, please don't roll your eyes but everyone knows that if the house burns down your Green Beret is one of the things we grab. Along with Steve's and Dad's flags. To my Dad in WWII and my Grandfather in WWI: Thank you. To my Great, great grandfather Brice who, in the War Between the States, went into battle with the drummer boy hoisted up on your shoulder as you held out your Bible in the other hand: Thank you. To the ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War. Thank you for being there at the beginning. Because of you I went to college on a DAR scholarship so I feel a special kinship and sense of gratitude.
To each of you: I owe you a debt I cannot repay. But because of each of you I can plop myself down on my couch on Sundays and watch a bunch of grown men chase a football up and down a field. And I don't have to worry. Or look over my shoulder. Or fear a knock at the door.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
