With the 49ers bringing in what many say is the best college football coach on the planet that means the NFC West now has the best "2" college football coaches to come out in the past 2 years. Add in the fact they dont get a long (Harbaughs Stanford vs Carrolls USC) and its a great rivaly that will emerge in the NFC West with the 49ers vs Seahawks.

Add in the NFC West has potential Rookie of the Year QB Sam Bradford playing in it and our Arizona Cardinals- just 2 years removed from the Superbowl- and I can see a lot of national interest in the NFC West from this point on. That should mean a lot of primetime games for all the teams. Im tired of the lack of respect this division gets!

So how does the Harbaugh signing help our Cardinals? I see a few things. For one it pushes the bar a little and forces the Cardinals brass to make changes if they indeed want to keep pace with 49ers. The Cardinals could never beat Mike Singletary's 49ers so them having a "new" coach aka new system is very good news for us. Also I heard on Sirius Radio that the 49ers now sport a young owner, rookie GM and rookie coach- and a pending labor dispute could mean none of them get to do much with this team until August. That would be devastating to the 49ers.

In closing I am very happy Jim Harbaugh is in the NFC West - and QB Andrew Luck hopefully wont be- LOL.

Go Cardinals in 2011! (my vote is for Rob Ryan for DC)

The best way to defend our division is to point out how well it's done in the playoffs. It has the best winning percentage in the NFC since 2000 and it's not even close. The division has a 14-7 record in the NFC playoffs since 2000 and is the only one to have all 4 teams in the Super Bowl since 1995.

I agree with the OP. Teams getting better will push the front office to get even better.

Good stuff AZ-----If Whiz truly does see the error of his ways during the past year, this could inspire him to a return to the times when we had 'one heartbeat', and when we defied the odds to achieve greatness. The NFC West could become The Division of the NFL, instead of the worst division in it.

I agree with what you are trying to say here Catfish but I don't want to return to the "one heartbeat" era. That was the Dave McGinnis era. Great guy, bad head coach. The Cards didn't defy odds, they defied logic.

Very good point.

You are dreaming. Even the Seahawks victory today will not prod the Cardinals brass to do anything. They are set in their ways which are oblivious to what is going on elsewhere.

Kool-Aide - Harbaugh's presence will make us have to play to a higher standard in order to win the division. It will keep us humble since Harbaugh and Carroll will hog even more of the NFC West media attention.

Dark Side - We'll have a harder time competing. The lack of Cardinal national media attention will deter FA's from signing with us and our own high-profile players from re-signing here.

Ideal Attitude - Don't worry about them. Worry about us - and what we need to do to become better.

Isn't that kind of the point of the OP? Harbaugh will make the 9ers better. The Rams and Seahawks are getting better. This SHOULD push us to get better.

Winning in the playoffs does.

Last year we were one and out, this year we didnt make it and our playoff team was 7-9 and happened to win one. I wont give seattle respect for that and neither will national media.

If Harbaugh coming to the 49ers allows Greg Manusky to become our DC- that would be awesome. Also lost with the Seattle upset win over New Orleans is that Seattle had written QB M.Hasselback off for 2011 as he had a pretty bad season. Now they will have a huge decision to make this off-season. That could become a big distraction and surely there will be a ton of "what ifs" on both sides of that argument.

I like the fact that Harbaugh is coming to the 49ers. College coaches don't tend to do all that well in the pros. AT least one year of turmoil retooling that roster and implementing a new system. Major questions at QB as well.
