A year ago, the final season of the Lake Michigan Conference, a share atop the league’s girls basketball standings closed things out for the conference.
When the new Northern Shores Conference began for the 2024-25 basketball season, the Harbor Springs girls had the goal of going against everything they were taught growing up.
No more sharing.
That goal was accomplished with a 14-0 league record, with the Rams winning by an average margin of 36 points in league contests.
The Rams obviously had talent – led by Michigan Miss Basketball runner-up Olivia Flynn – though Harbor had scoring depth, even if youthful, for the first time in a while.
The Northern Shores coaches recently released their all-conference girls basketball teams, with Harbor leading the way with three first team selections and six across the lists overall.
Flynn of course led the way for the Rams, while being joined on the first team by teammates Stefi Reskevics and Makenna Brey.
Northern Lakes: Northern Lakes champs Harbor Light, Ellsworth lead all-conference picks
Ski Valley: St. Mary's Daniel Jacobson named Ski Valley boys basketball Player of the Year
Boyne City had Addy Burns and Braydin Noble earn first team, while Charlevoix placed Sarah Wyglendowski and Cheboygan had Cloee Rupp earn first team.
Other first team selections included Kingsley’s Emilee Robinson and Annie Strang, Elk Rapids’ Rhielynn Skrocki and Hunter Shellenbarger, Grayling’s Cali D’Amour and Kalkaska’s Grace Denike.
For Flynn, a four-year starting career ended with 2,361 career points, tops in the Harbor program and No. 9 all-time in MHSAA history.
The Western Michigan University signee averaged 24.2 points a game, to go with 6.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.4 steals.
Perhaps most impressive in her career is the fact that she never missed a game, competing in all 94 over the last four years.
The careers for Reskevics and Brey are just underway, with the sophomore and freshman, respectively, highlighting another bright future.
Reskevics finished the year averaging 10 points, six rebounds and two assists, then Brey averaged seven points, five rebounds and two assists.
Boyne City’s Burns enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign with some big games late in the season. She led the team with an average of 11.5 points a game, then also led with 6.8 rebounds a night and three steals.
Noble, who will play soccer at Michigan Tech next season, averaged 9.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.9 steals.
The second team for the conference was made up of Harbor Springs freshmen Lillian McShannock and Paytyn Page, Boyne City’s Delaney Little, Charlevoix’s Ayla Kemp, Cheboygan’s Olivia Patrick and Addison Ptasnik, Marisa Graham and Alena Stewart of Kingsley, Elk Rapids’ Haleigh Yocom, Grayling’s Jill Hartman and Ali Helinski and Aubrey Manchester of Kalkaska.
