I am curious about which of the team's current players will be on the summer league team. It seems to me this is going to be a crucial period for determining the future of some of their players.
- Lampe - He is certain to be on the team. His off season workouts and training are reported to be going well. The question is whether this will translate into on the floor effectiveness. It would be nice to know if he is going to be a marginal player this season or a major contributor. This will be our first chance to find out.
- Barbosa - Can he play point guard? They've been working with him on it since the end of the season as well as trying to get him stronger. No one doubts he's a player, but if he can play the point he is a lot more valuable and could effect some of their off season moves.
- Vroman - He will not get an guaranteed contract and has to prove he belongs in the NBA. Will he be a "wild man" role player or a contributor? Are his offensive skills real? Is he strong enough to do what he does in the NBA?
Those three are set. Some of the other players who MIGHT be on the team are just as interesting.
- Jacobsen - Can he shoot the mid range, pull up jumper in competition. Casey did not put up many points last season once teams learned how to defense him. If he develops a mid range game, he becomes vastly more valuable than as just a three point specialist. If he does'nt, he may not be part of the team's future.
- Carbacapa - He was expected to try out for the Serbian Olympic team. I hope he doesn't make it. He needs to be with the Suns working on his NBA skills and strength. On the Olympic team, he would spend most of his time on the bench.
- Voskuhl - He wasn't on the summer team last season, but he is coming off an injury and might want to get the court time. Jake keeps improving, but is no where close to being at the level of a starting center. The summer league would be a chance to show he is able to keep getting better.
