there have also been plenty of look like Tarzan play like Jane guys who have failed. To say he can play just cause of his looks is kinda crazy.

He doesn’t grade well in pass blocking or run blocking he’s well below the other 3

Then, what if his weight gets out of control... this is something the Cardinals should not touch when they have options like Thomas, Wirfs or Wills

I don't think he has a weight problem...he is just huge.

Back in the day, the LT was so important because it protected a QB's blindside since most people are right handed. Now, the defense has adjusted by moving their prominent pass rushers around, much like a offense puts WRs in motion to capitalize on an advantage. So, why are we still judging with a tendency to draft RTs who are less pass protection specialists. I say if you want a RT for the Cards, draft Thomas out of Georgia. What are the opinions out there...

I agree. Tackles are tackles. They protect the side where the QB isn't looking.

If you don't agree I can post several tweets from OT's that say the same thing.

This is sort of true from a style of defense point of view. However, we still see tackles who play better on one side of the line than the other. Humphries is a perfect example. In both college and the pros he struggled on the right side but was at least decent on the left. It may have something to do with the differential between their dominant leg and the other. This is not to say the right side isn’t equally important today, but to keep in mind tackles are not always interchangeable.

I said 'if' his weight gets out of control but if you think about it, 6'7 is not as tall as one might think to hold that much weight. Now I know all the 'ideal' weight stuff is bull to an extent and this boy plays football and a lot of that's muscle, but the ideal weight for 6'7 is about 250. Yeah, he has a chance of developing a weight problem. Don't get me wrong, I like Becton and even the likes of the opposite side of the physical attribute spectrum as Ruggs but just do not see that as a gamble we need to take with safer options which for me still have all pro ability at both positions :raccoon:

Jared Veldaheer was a damn good LT for us and he couldn’t play on the right side to save his life.

it’s like hey take everything you’ve learned now go do it backwards at the highest level.

2020 NFL Draft: Tristan Wirfs has a colorful way to describe the difference between left and right tackle

This certainly is an interesting way to describe playing offensive tackle

While Wirfs has proven how athletic of a big guy he is, questions still remain about what position he will play at the next level. While many collegiate offensive tackles move inside to guard, Wirfs appears to be a candidate to stay on the outside. As for if he will play on the left or right side -- Wirfs has actually played both.

"I feel most comfortable at right tackle, but I've played both," Wirfs told 850 ESPN Cleveland earlier this week, (H/T Pro Football Talk). "It doesn't really matter to me. Coach Ferentz, he always says he doesn't see a big difference between right and left. He says tackles are at a premium. People are always looking for tackles. I'll play wherever the team wants me to. I'll play safety if they need me to."

There is a difference when it comes to playing left and right tackle, however, and Wirfs found a colorful way to describe it.

"When I first started flipping back and forth, I think I was trying to look for a big difference," Wirfs said. "Honestly, the only thing different is you got your other hand down. It just feels awkward at first but once you settle in it feels fine. . . . It kinda feels like wiping your butt with your other hand. It just feels a little awkward at first, but you get used to it."

I agree. I was talking more about the importance of left over right. It was once seen as LT being much more important but it's not really the case anymore.

A lot of the league's top DE line up over the RT or move around.

So do the TE's and a bigger prevalence of two TE sets on early downs.

Also there are T's who will transition inside.

Ruiz, Cushenberry, Harris, Baidasz should all contribute in the immediate to short term. Lemeiux, Hunt & Lewis are are good prospects, and there will be serviceable b/u's at the least.
