this guy was on the upswing in new orleans..then last year he was injured and had a terrible year.. I have not seen that he has had any visits.. Anyone see him play much? I am trying to find someone out there who would be an upgrade at end..not sure he is better than what we have. must be some issues out there as I have not seen that he has had any visits or interest..

Not a guy we would normally consider, but if he is cheap and we lose holliday and suggs is gone..trying to find some alternative...I have my fingers crossed that Dennis johnson is working his ass off this offseason..he may have the opportunity..

Jaguars | Out Of Left Field For Douglas - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
19:42 PT: Pete Prisco reports for SportsLine.com the Jacksonville Jaguars have emerged from nowhere to become the favorites to sign free agent DE Hugh Douglas (Eagles), according to a league source. The Jaguars jumped into the Douglas talks late Friday, which makes any possible signing somewhat surprising. Douglas will be in Jacksonville for a physical Saturday, and if he passes his physical he is expected to be signed.

johnson is supposed to be an above average athlete who need to get alot stronger (without losing speed - which is hard) and needed serious technique work.. Jurecki said wendall bryant has been in town for awhile working out everyday..I have heard nothing on johnson. These 2 guys and fisher may determine whether we have an awful or a decent defense..but...we have at least $11 million left plus the rookie pool..so you never know what could happen..

Im pretty cerain we have more than 11 million left. The rookie pool is only going to be around four million so even with all the signings this week we did not go from 30 million down to 11 no way!

At then end of the day.. I am not panicing (although I know it sounds like that!) about holliday signing with our division rival.. I wanted him because he is about the only decent free agent out there..but he is injured alot and is not the great pass rusher we need...at least if we do not get him we can drive the price up for seattle and they will have shot their wad in free agency..long term..it may be a good thing..but it might kill us in the short term..

jurecki said today that the rookie pool was $5.0 to $5.5 he guessed..we had $28.5 mil before this week.. and we have signed 9 players per my count (7 on the big day and 2 today).. assuming a cushion of $1 mil..we probably have $11 - $13 mil to spend.. not sure if this includes any saving from cutting grutts..today we are at about $18.5 - but it is hard to tell as some of the #'s have not been released.. But the 9 guys this week probably did take at least $10 million..we went from $34 to $28.5 by signing some of our own free agents (tanner, etc).. I hope my #'s are wrong..the more the better!

Jureckis on dope unless Im mistaken the rookie pool was only 3.7 last year I believe thats what Antsports Steve said there isno way its going up n fact didnt the NFL put a freeze on that?? Im almost certain they did.

Say we were at 34 mill and for arguments sake you subtract 4 mill for the pool. I know this weeks FA did not eat up 19 million?? I sure would like to see it all layed out though??

I think the famous $34 mil # was before the following:
Extended tenders to CB David Barrett, S Justin Lucas, and C Jason Starkey that make them Restricted Free Agents.

Offered tenders to ten players with less than three years experience making them exclusive-rights players: DT Nate Dwyer, S Nijrell Eason, LB Trev Faulk, C Steve Grace, LS Nathan Hodel, WR Nate Poole, RB Travis Prentice, * Teag Whiting, LB Levar Woods, and * Tony Wragge.

Per the attached link, I got the $28.5 mil on monday (before the 9 signings this week):
http://www.theredzone.org/caproom.asp

2003 Salary Cap Status For Each NFL Team

Updated 3/11/2003
The 2002 Salary Cap is estimated to be approximately $75.01 Million.

Rank Team Total Cap Room
1 Arizona Cardinals $46,610,000 $28,400,000
2 Minnesota Vikings $49,810,000 $25,200,000
3 Houston Texans $59,110,000 $15,900,000
4 Philadelphia Eagles $59,910,000 $15,100,000
5 New Orleans Saints $63,710,000 $11,300,000
6 Seattle Seahawks $64,660,000 $10,350,000

So..if we had $28.4 monday.. it is possible we are at $16 - $18 million today..hard to tell as the contract specifics have not been released..

Thats what I was thinking that around 18 million sounded more like it rather than 11.

I was assuming we had $16 - $18 today..and then taking a $5 mil rookie cap..putting us in the $11 - $13 range available..knowing they will leave at least $1 million when the season starts..Plus if we are waiting for some players after the june 1st cuts..we may only spend like $7 - $9 million right now and keep $4 million for after june 1st and the rest of the season.. We were probably reserving a chunk of the available $$ for emmitt and holliday..but if holliday goes away and emmitt waits.. we will probably have round #2 of free agent visits..
