.... how good so many late and un-drafted RBs have looked this preseason. I have recorded and watched every preseason game, and realize even stronger how there is absolutely no reason to waste a mid or high draft pick on any RB ever. It is a shame how many good Rbs will probably be cut this week. I have really been impressed with several. If coach felt we needed a big monster type back for goal line situations, there sure are some to be had.

What has grabbed your attention during this preseason watching other teams play?

Any particular ones caught your eye?

I was at a restaurant last night and in the background they were showing the replay of the Rams/Browns game. I think it was in the third quarter and one of the Browns running backs popped off a run that was jaw dropping.

It was called back and they never showed a replay because one of the Rams players got hurt, but wow, what a run.

Edit: It was Terrance West, rookie out of Towson.

I have him in my fantasy leagues thinking he should be the starter before the season ends.

In the same vein, I have noticed a lot of UDFA wide receivers that are showing promise as well.

The game is so wide open that the size of the players that need to play positions has reduced in the skill positions, IMO.

Thus there are a lot more athletes that can play on the edges of the field in the NFL. It is the reason why I think there seem to be a lot of good talent that was not drafted throughout the NFL at WR, but at the same time the tight end position (which requires a certain size person) is so rare as well.

Closer you get to the middle of the field, the bigger the player needs to be.

Yet, the question that bugs me is how teams can find running backs in low rounds or undrafted, yet at the linebacker position it is hard to accomplish the same thing.

Same thought goes with wider recievers and cornerbacks.

Alphonso Smith led the NFL in rushing in pre-season last year. Ryan Williams is 8th this year. Orleans Darkwa is averaging over 6 ypc. It's pretty easy to look good in pre-season.

Ryan Williams goes from 2nd round pick in 2011 to practice squad in 2014. If they didn't make the new PS rules this year, he would have been out of football completely. No one even put in a waiver claim for him.

The casual fan can notice RB's and WR's in the preseason, but it takes a hardcore fan to notice/evaluate the play of the offensive/defensive line. Sacks and interceptions stand out, but there so few of them.

I'm more than a casual fan, but don't have the knowledge to evaluate line play. Or even if it's a case of #1's going against #2's. But I do appreciate the posts of those who do.
