As I watch the Hawks go down in flames to the Clips, can someone remind me how protected those pics are we got in what should now only be referred to as "the Boris Diaw trade"?

If we get a pick in the next draft, any predictions on how high it might be?

This might go on for a few years, and eventually the protections go away.... :D

I believe it's lottery protected this year, 1-3 protected next year, and unprotected after that.

So basically we don't get a pick from them for two years! :biglaugh:

The Hawks pick won't fall to us before at least 2007, because like mribnik said, it's lottery protected next year, 1-3 protected in 2007 (maybe they'll be unlucky on the lottery and we'll be able to grab a 4th or 5th pick) and unprotected then.

The other pick will be either a Lakers or Celtics pick due to an earlier Boston-Atlanta trade.

The Laker pick is subject to protection through No. 10 in 2006, through No. 5 in draft years 2007-2010 and unconditional in 2011.
It's owed to Boston from yet another previous trade.

In the year that the LA pick is conveyed to Boston, Phoenix will receive (via Atlanta) the least favorable of Boston's own pick or the LA pick.

yeah, unfortunately the unprotection is the year AFTER greg oden becomes available. we have to hope that the hawks either get the 4th pick in two years and we get it, or they don't get either the first or second pick (oden or oj mayo) next year 'cuz either of those guys will elevate the hawks quite a bit (in my opinion) in their rookie season and our pick will drop in value considerably. if they get anyone other than oden or mayo i think they'll still stink and that unprotected pick may be quite high.

I would think that the Hawks will be better next year after the draft, but, they still will be a bottom 5 probably, and we will have a good chance to get the 4th or later pick in two years.

If they lose Al Harrington to free agency, then they'll be worse.

Oh, and they'll probably draft another small forward this year, Rudy Gay, anyone?

You are right!
The Hawks better be trading him by the Feb. deadline to get something in return. I can not see him signing there again. If I remember he is unrestricted.
