Excellent!

...but, just like Rivera, I think a little less of him for thinking about his future while still coaching his current team.

I'd be pissed if I were a Chargers (or in the case of Rivera) a Bears fan.

So, in essence you're all for successful assistants who coach on teams that go deep into the playoffs never, ever getting the chance at HC jobs? That's why they're allowed to talk now. Such coaches were getting the shaft year after year because teams could not wait that long.

I think the top 3 candidates are the top 3 guys they are meeting with...

Wed - Rivera
Thur - Sherman
Fri - Cameron

Can't really argue with any of these three but I think they go offensive.

I think basically that was a schedule thing they had to interview Rivera and Cameron early because they're in the playoffs.

I don't think the interview order necessarily reflects the order they rank the candidates, but that's a guess.

I don't think Green cared to push around the organization this season. If reports are true he didn't want to sign James he wanted to spread the wealth more then it just shows that he didn't have as much power as we thought.

He to me looked like a guy who didn't care about 1/4 of the way in to this season. He didn't seem to want to push back, he took it and just waited for the season to end.

I want a coach who won't take it, won't be so easily defeated.

I think Green took that approach every season though. I think he started off working and once the season started poorly he kind of lost focus. He really never lost enough in Minnesota to have to work through it, he had his "system" he had talent, and they won.

I think he was much better at talking about how you go about building a winner than he was about actually doing it here. I think those years at ESPN got him a bit lazy.

The resumes of each look dazzling.

But what wins games will be the unique set of personality traits key to the job.

Few if any of us have ever met any of the current 8 individuals nor do we have an inkling about how each of them relates to players or management, deals with adversity, plans for success, knows what buttons to push (or not push) etc.

It will be an interesting search - how do you rate the "sage wisdom" of 60-year old Norm Chow (with his stellar backround in education) with the energy and of a younger and possibly more energetic guy like a Jim Bates?

How do you compare and rate the sweat & grit of playing in the NFL trenches (like Rivera and Grimm) with the cerebral and theoretical skills of a Cameron, Chow or Whisenhut?

Which of these guys is a screamer? Which a coaxer? Which thinks more long-range? which one is a "do it now!" guy? Who believes in fitting the system to the available players? Which ones believe in making the players conform to the system?

Those are the things that will determine whom we hire, and I suspect this will be as valuable as a learning experience for MB and RG as it is an important proicess for making the right decision.

I don't think the fact that Bates was born four weeks after Chow will make that much difference in their energy level. :p

If what all the Packers fans say is true, that Sherman coaches scared with the smallest of leads, i'm already worried.

I want a coach with a killer instinct, someone who gets up by 14 early in the 1rst, and still throws it down field.

Besides.. Graves and Sherman running a draft??

hey jeff...MAYBE we have uncovered the second coming of vince lombardi...i think he was an educator as well!! all kidding aside the choice of coaches...on paper appears very good....a case can be made for all of them when you take the emotion out....this will be a "king solomon type" of decision because as there will be many of the fans upset with the choice...

After thinking about it for a day I think Norm Chow will be the coach. The Cardinals like being leaders in one area that they can control--minority hires--and correct me if I'm wrong, Chow would be the first Asian-American head coach.

The only real memory I have of Sherman is after Sapp cheapshotted Kyle Clifton and was celebrating as Clifton lay motionless on the ground. Sherman went after him after the game, confronted him and started screaming at him and had to be restrained. Sapp said if he didn't have a family he would have kicked Sherman's ass, and continued to brag about the hit on Clifton, which at the time was thought to possibly be a career ending hit. While I think Sherman went a bit too far I have to admit I always admired him standing up for his player like that.

many hours spent with Clancy yesterday

-front office in Chi-town right now

Calvisi thinks:

the two front runners are Ron Rivera - connections with Graves, great DDD###

other front runner is Norm Chow - Leinart connection

Cam Cameron added to the list - on saturday

looking for someone who is super motivated - which was lacking from Green

Pendergast is motivated

calvisi thinks coach will be named next week

Who's the token minority interview? I really hate that rule, it just seems so disrespectful to the coach being interviewed.

They are interviewing 3 minorities - Rivera, Chow and Caldwell.

He's hispanic.

I should point out, Rivera played LB at Cal so those who don't want anymore Cal players should want us to avoid hiring Rivera.

I'm NOT, absolutely NOT, saying this should play a role in the hire, BUT....

I think Rivera would be a very popular choice here. For obvious reasons.

PFW said the exact same thing, given the large Hispanic population in Arizona Rivera would be popular.

In the end obviously you have to hire the guy you feel is best qualified. The reason I don't think we're leaning to Rivera is that we retained, and interviewed, Pendergast. Seems very odd that we'd think our existing DC is a potential HC in one breath, and then hire a former DC as HC in the next breath?

I wouldn't have any objection to Rivera but I suspect he's on the list because we think he's supposed to be on the list.
