Keeping the recruiting coordinator - that is someone I would think they would want to keep around, unless they are resigned to losing the class.

Even if the class might not be the type of players both on and off the field that the new coach wants? If keeping the class intact was the high priority for ASU then they should've just kept Erickson, if not then you should know that losing a good chunk of your commits is always a possibility if not a probability.

Either way, the kind of coach that ASU is demanding would be able to hold on to some of them as well as flip some committed kids not to mention the recruits that still haven't decided out there. If Crow and Lisa Love are going into this search dictating to the head coach candidates who their assistants are going to be then this thing may drag on for awhile.

I haven't read all of the posts on here, but have you guys seriously not started a "What post # will we be on before a HC is announced?" pool?!?!

I'll take Post #905.

(As an aside, I'm a UA alum/fan, but definitely in the "it will be better for everyone if both teams are consistently competitive" mold -- so I hope you can salvage this botched situation by getting a good coach at the end of the day).

Way earlier. I say #839.

Young is better than old. I'm not impressed by him, but his personality may work in college. However, is it common that an NFL coach translates into a good recruiter?

Coach not hired until at least 1,000 posts :)

Maybe June Jones wouldn't of been a bad hire.

Of those, Arkansas State, Houston and Southern Mississippi lost their coaches to bigger programs recently. Penn State is a mess with the scandal.

That leaves ASU in the company of Akron, Fresno and Hawai'i

That was a lateral move. He is DE 2.0. The only reason why it looks remotely good is based on the fact ASU has been dragging their feet ever since then. I would rather have English over Jones, hands down.

- I like Mark Whipple in the sense that he's a proven head coach. Guy was unbelievably successful, and I know Boston College laments not hiring him now. I pimped him a little the last coaching search. Graduated from Camelback, grew up in New England. Someone who knows players who played for him at Brown says players hate him, but it's the only negative thing I've heard about him. Unless you personally hate Andy Reid and Dirk Koetter, who he's friends with.

- Mazzone is not who you think he is. I think he will end up at A&M.

- Broussard may stay. I think he should. He will get a promotion out of it here. He won't get that at UCLA, where Klemm is already the RC.

- Most of the rumors now are coming from agents trying to make their clients look appealing. Figured that out after talking to a few people at ASU. I seriously doubt Haley is being considered or had his call returned. All of Pete's contacts are on the coaching/agent side of things. He's going to get played on occasion.

The kind of players Broussard is recruiting -- and has committments from -- are the type of players no head coach says 'No' to. Big, athletic receivers, specifically, work in any offense.

My point is that when you hire a new coach I feel he should have the authority to make these types of decisions. Not specifically on the players themselves as all scholarships are generally honored to keep up relationships but with assistants. It can't be easy to sell this job especially after everything that has gone on if you're dictating who the assistants are going to be.

It's pretty standard to retain at least one assistant from the previous staff, unless they broke the rules or everyone is off for other jobs.

The lack of any sense of urgency certainly is starting to take its toll.

Mike Jurecki
ASU Coach Steve Broussard is on his way to UCLA"

Mora also trying to convince Mazzone to make the move to Westwood"

Neal said he now looking at other schools. That would be a big loss for ASU.

Can't blame 'em. Not many people would want to work for the Three Stooges (Love, Patterson, Crow).

I'd show Mazzone the door myself if I could. And not just because I hate that scheme.

I know, but I want to save the ASU football program. It is terrible to be so powerless.

ASU has named Gus Malzahn as their new head coach.....

Arkansas State that is...

I can't help but ask myself, is that truly the best Malzahn could do and why the ASU we all are here to discuss can't get their ducks in a row.

Malzahn took a pay cut to leave a bad situation and go home. $800K in Arkansas is like $1 billion anyplace else. Except Mississippi, I guess. Or Maricopa. :D

He was never in the picture here. He's another guy that should never leave the South.

Better security and easier to recruit. Not surprising.

Not sure how Mora's going to work out but his first two hires are going to be monster recruiters for him.

Broussard officially gone. Per Broussard.
This "coaching search" is become comical. It's past the point of pathetic and all you can really do at this point is just laugh at the situation. As long as the Women's Soccer, softball, and volleyball teams are doing good, Love is perfectly content without having any other competitive sports, especially the big money makers (Basketball, Football). Dumbfounding....

Sounds like it could be Wilcox. He doesn't win the press conference but at least you could finally have a coach.

Any Sources?

Mike Jurecki just confirmed that Crow is becoming "more involved" in the search and that "Todd Haley is interested".
