CLEVELAND — The Miami Heat on Monday received the final piece from their Feb. 6 trade of Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors.

In addition to landing Andrew Wiggins, Davion Mitchell and Kyle Anderson in the multi-team deal, the Heat also received a 2025 first-round pick protected through the first 10 selections from the Warriors.

That selection now will come at No. 20 in the June 25 first round of the NBA draft.

With the Warriors finishing the regular season in a three-way tie at 48-34 with the Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks, a three-team random drawing was held Monday to determine those draft positions. Unlike with playoff seeding, the lone tiebreaker for draft positions are random draws.

The Heat could have wound up as high as No. 18, but it’s pick twice failed to come up in the drawings first for No. 18 and then for No. 19.

The Heat three times have held the No. 20 pick over their 37 seasons. During the team’s first draft, guard Kevin Edwards was selected out of DePaul at 20, becoming a cornerstone for the expansion roster. In 2007, the Heat’s No. 20 pick was used on Colorado State forward Jason Smith, who immediately was traded for the draft rights of guard Daequan Cook. In 2020, the Heat drafted Memphis big man Precious Achiuwa at No. 20, one pick ahead of Tyrese Maxey going to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Heat’s own 2025 first-round pick, at No. 15, is now held by the Oklahoma City Thunder, to complete a lottery-protected obligation that winds all the way back to the multi-team deal that delivered Butler to the Heat in 2019. Had the Heat not made the playoffs, their 2026 unprotected first-round pick instead would have gone to the Thunder.

The Heat were involved in a similar tiebreaker for the Nos. 18-20 picks in the 2023 draft, winning that draw and securing No. 18, with Golden State in that draw landing at No. 19 and the Los Angeles Clippers at No. 20.

The Heat in that draft selected UCLA forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., who went on to be named first-team all rookie. With the 2023 No. 19 pick, the Warriors drafted Brandin Podziemski. At No. 20 in 2023, Cam Whitmore went to the Houston Rockets as part of a trade.

The Heat also were involved in a tiebreaker with the Warriors for the Nos. 27-28 picks in 2022, winning that draw. The Heat then selected Serbian big man Nikola Jovic at No. 27, with the Warriors taking Patrick Baldwin at No. 28.

There is no prohibition against the Heat trading the 2025 first-round pick received from the Warriors.

The Heat’s lone remaining first-round obligation is from the 2024 acquisition of Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets. Charlotte either will receive a 2027 lottery-protected first-round pick from the Heat, if the Heat made the 2027 playoffs, or a 2028 unprotected first-round pick.

The next step in the draft process for the Heat is Saturday’s early-entry deadline for prospects to declare. The NBA draft combine then follows May 11-18 in Chicago.

The deadline for early-entry candidates to withdraw from the draft is June 15.

The Heat do not hold a pick in the June 26 second round of the draft, with that selection having wound its way to the Warriors.

Injury report

The Heat’s initial injury report for Wednesday night’s 7;30 p.m. Game 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the best-of-seven opening-round playoff series has guard Terry Rozier listed as questionable. after spraining his left ankle during an optional team workout Monday.

Rozier has not been in the rotation and did not play in Sunday night’s Game 1 loss at Rocket Arena.
