Steve,
We need Lopez to figure out how to play without Amare. Right now, even Frye is outplaying him down low and Channing didn't all of a sudden morph into a real center.

I'm not so sure its the lack of Amare as much as his back problems that are cause of Robin's poor play. It may be as much mental as physical. One reason I think that is the case is that Gentry is keeping his minutes consistently low and if Robin was feeling first rate I'd expect Alvin to try to get him to just play thru it.

You could be right but I just figured Gentry was tired of watching him out there. It's reached the point where Nash visibly shows his disappointment in Lopez occasionally and that's pretty unusual. Either way, we've got problems at the 5 that don't look like they're going away any time soon.

The reason Gentry is keeping Robin's minutes low is because if he isn't in foul trouble, he's usually missing point blank shots. He hurts the team more than he helps, IMO. At least, right now he does.

I really don't think you can downplay the effect, especially for a young player, of being the only true big man in the rotation and on the floor when the prevalent opposition has at least two big men on the court and three or four on the roster.

It sure affected Amar'e's foul trouble and hesitance to play all-out defense. It just wears you down. And that leads to diminishing confidence in a young player.

When the front office stocked the roster with all 1's, 2's and 3's plus Lopez, I wonder if they considered the pressure it would put on him. How to ruin the potential career of an important commodity -- a true Center.

With the exception of a soft Frye at 245 lbs. (who shares the same position), Robin Lopez is the only player in the rotation weighing more than 225 lbs.

A solid outing tonight against the vaunted Lakers. The last 3 was awesome!

When the Suns are hitting their three's, they can be unbeatable. Unfortunately, tonight was a bit unusual although the Lakers do close out on shooters as well as anybody.

As for Hedo, he played well although he always plays smaller than his size.

In any case, much of the media has figured out that Hedo is likely to be better coming off the bench. Even Phil Jackson said so, which is enough to make me question the idea but it seems likely something on this order will happen.

When they mentioned that on the air, they also quoted Alvin Gentry referring to how many championships Phil Jackson has won, and how he is still considering that.

Lopez's injury may postpone that for awhile.
