I'm driving over from Albuquerque tomorrow and could someone give me a real road report from Flag? I can drive in snow but I've been in several nasty situations driving through there before and my wife doesn't care for it one bit. I don't really want to go the south route through Tucson as it adds about 3 hrs to the trip.

Ok to get through around 2pm tomorrow?

Thanks for any help

Arizona is on the 511 system. Call 511 when you are in state lines. Or go to www.az511.gov.

Sounds like the 40 will be OK from ABQ to Flag (some rain or snow possible). Road is down to 1 lane on the south drive on the 17 between mile markers 264 and 261. Could be nasty.

Make sure your gas tank is full and you have water, etc...

Good luck!

I was on 17 this morning and evening from Flag to Kachina Village exit. This morning it was drivable for people with common sense although I did pass 2 slide offs and a tractor trailer sideways on an onramp. This evening it was much better although after I went through I heard someone rolled their pick up in the median. Tomorrow we are supposed to get some more snow but unless we get hit hard, I'm guessing you'll be alright. Just the normal fun and games on the I-17 bobsled course. Safe travels. If you are on facebook at all, check out Flagscanner. They seem to do the best job updating road conditions, along with crime and whatnot.

Thanks you guys. I do watch out for idiots on the I 17. Sounds like I've been in much worse. We'll be careful. I'll check in the morning before I take off.

We actually got quite a bit of snow overnight. It looks like the interstates are open but snowpacked and slow moving as of 830. Its still snowing here lightly. Best of luck.

I cannot get access to any weather stuff here at work, just was told outside that its chains weather up north which also means black ice and ETC. They could be wrong. I would try the 511 thing.

just called flagstaff visitor center. sposed to have snow all day 9 or 10 inches on ground already and snowing steadily. 40 is opened but a few crashes could close it. 17 also. Said winter driving warning is in effect.

tt payson said take 377 out of holbrook and that will drop you on heber, 260 from heber to payson. and 87 down. sounded less dangerous per her, I thought 87 all the way made more sense but she said this is faster? Best i could do, drive safe.

For sure don't come through here unless you have to. It sounds like 40 is still open until West of Flag but its been snowing steadily all morning. Even if they keep 17 open you are almost bound to get stopped by a crash somewhere even if you don't crash yourself. Snowing hard right now at 135 pm.

Wife and I drove down 87 in blizzard conditions last year. We saw 3 vehicles stuck in ditches. I can see why it'd be safer to get off the 40 at Holbrook. That avoids the stetch between Holbrook-Joseph City-Winslow.

I'd take the 77 to Show Low if the conditions are really bad. Plowed more often. Then you can take the 60 or the 260.

Took the hashknife. It was blizzard conditions for about 30 miles but got through that. Hit some slidings rocks and had a blowout on brand new tires. Changing that in pouring rain was really fun!!!!

Really glad I didn't go through Flag. Thanks to all for helping.

Redbirds win tomorrow!!

Glad you made it. What an adventure. If the team were to shows half the toughness in the face of adversity, we'd win easy.
