***Spoilers**** (if you haven't seen this movie, get with the decade)

First off, one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the setting and the scenery of the movie and the acting by Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin is great... even though Hopkins is a little over the top a few times, but it works :D

Here is the debate....

I claim that Baldwin did not intend to kill Hopkins in the beginning of the movie, he was merely having an affair with his wife. However once Hopkins' character put the idea into his head he thought about it out in the wilderness and when they finally appeared to be saved, he then attempted to kill him.

My wife says he was planning on killing him the entire time during the point they would be out hunting together. He was obviously with his wife when they bought Hopkins' watch and he was going to play the part of "consoling" friend and slowly move in on his wife after he off'd him.

We both agree the wife was unaware of the plot in both scenerios

Can I get some opinions on who's probably right?

Agreed. I haven't seen the movie in years, but I don't think he intended to kill Hopkins until he found the rifle and realized he had the perfect opportunity to do it.

That's Mamet, I love his films. I don't think there is a correct answer. Mamet seems to love leaving it for the viewer to decide IMO.
