harry: thoughts on moving davis to tackle? centers and guards are alot easier to come by in free agency than tackles....If we get a woody and kendall goes to guard..and we move davis - then we have one guard spot to fill... I was down on spikes from the day we signed him...if the team with about the worst oline in the league (houston) did not want to retain him...not sure what we saw in him..

Spikes played well the first half of the season but then really fell off. I am not sure if his falloff caused Shelton to slip, or if Shelton slipping caused Spikes to fall off. I suspect it was the former. With OL if one guy is having problems it quite often makes the guy next to him look bad too because he's always cheating to help.

I think the same is true with Big, if he had a guy at RT playing well I think he'd look a lot better at RG than he did at times this year.

I love Woody, always have I was leading the campaign to draft him the year we took LJ and Boston. I think Kendall did a great job at C but yes if we could get Woody that would allow us to move Kendall back to LG.

I understand that Cleveland might let Dennis Northcutt test the free agency waters because he wants starter money. We'd be able to give him that, and a shot at the job. Kid has wheels and quality playing time in this league. What do you think?

Does he return punts too? We need to get Anquan out of Punt Return.

Yep, he's actually a darn good punt/kick returner.

The one drawback, is that he played ball at UofA, so his heart would definitely be questionable. (Just kidding. ;) )

Harry - you say that Jevon Kearse will be franchised - will the Titans have to get far enough under the cap to support a franchise salary to do so? They are going to be close to $20 million over already with the players they currently have under contract.

Yes we've talked about Northcutt before as another guy like darrell jackson that would solve some weaknesses. his advantage is he returns punts, jackson doesn't. Jackson is a better WR. I do wonder if them cutting Kevin Johnson makes Northcutt less expendable now? actually all things being equal I'd rather have Andre Davis or Quincy Morgan would be better fits for us since they're faster and better deep threats, but I doubt they have any interest in moving either. Northcutt wound up catching more balls than either Morgan or Davis so it's possible Cleveland may decide to keep all 3.

I really think the veteran WR has to be a guy who is a deep threat, Johnson can run but I don't think he's ever going to be a consistent long ball threat as the scouting reports said it takes him too long to hit full speed and he still tends to slow up on the ball in the air. I still think Darrell Jackson, drops and all, would make this offense REALLY interesting.

I understand what you're saying, but Jackson is going to want serious money, like a tier below Terrell Owens money. Dennis Northcutt can be had for just solid starting WR money.

By the way, the place that I got the Northcutt rumor was from "Whispers from Around the NFL". He apparently wants to be a starter, and Cleveland views him only as a #3.

If we can find a guy with speed that'll come at a good price (Maybe we can call Marcus Robinson), that's perfect, but I'll settle for Denny Northcutt if it comes down to it.

I would love to get Jackson, but only at the right price. If he wants more than 4mill. per season, I wouldn't want him, and I suspect that he will be looking for a contract above what I would be willing to pay.

I actually made a trade for Northcutt in Madden. :D He fills the role of punt/kick returner, and dangerous third receiver. He would be a better fit IMO. With a core of Boldin, Johnson, Northcutt, and Poole, WR would no longer be a weakness.

Boldin would be a yac/ possesion guy, Johnson would be a pure possesion guy, Northcutt would be a yac/big play guy/punt returner wild card receiver, and Poole would be a situational big receiver.

I had the same question, to franchise him they have to be UNDER the cap by the franchise amount, I'm guessing 5-6 million for a DE. That means cutting 26 million off their cap, that's a LOT of money to cut. Oakland did it this past offseason by extending deals and stuff but it's not easy to do. If they win the Superbowl I could see it happening as guys may be willing to move money around to get a shot at repeating, but often winnign a superbowl screws your cap as everyone expects to cash in on it.

I thought the franchise figure for the top five ends is more like 7 million?

I gotta agree, that sounds like a good AND do-able scenario.

I was wondering the same thing. I mean the Titans were having incredible difficulty just to sign Neil O'Donnell to a league minimum contract a few weeks ago due to their salary cap woes...

You know, Johnson could be the "jump ball" player that Gollin wants, as well as a "big play" guy. He's big, and can jump (I think). Don't write the guy off.

I find myself cheering for the Titans this post-season because I really fear that they're going to have to significantly re-build after this season. Either Kevin Carter or Jevon Kearse are going to have to go. I bet that it's going to be Kearse. I wonder, if franchised, the Titans would take our second-rounder. The Two low picks might enable them to trade up into a mid- to late-first round pick, and get a player that could help them sooner.

Oh yeah we're all in agreement there, if Jackson thinks he's an elite WR and wants 4-5 million per, let someone else pay it. If he wants 2.5 to 3 I think he'd be a great addition. I have no idea what he wants, he made just over 1.3 million this year which was the tender amount as an RFA.

I tried to find a source for what he wants but I don't see anything but speculation he wants "starter money".

We'll put this one in the time capsule and see who's right. Of course, I also win if he gets re-signed without the tag. It's only fair.

anything is possible, look at the Raiders last year they cleared caproom easily. Supposedly the Titans are going to consider releasing Eddie George for one thing to clear cap so they may have a plan to retain Kearse. But right now they'd have to clear like 24 million to do so.

I want us to draft the kid (Sprowell?) out of K-State to return punts and be our #4 RB (assuming Damien is OK)
