Now hear are PFW's projected LB's that get cut -

Peter Boulware - Ravens - Injuries - Due to make about $6 millions
Kevin Hardy - Cincy - Injuries
Sam Cowart - Jets - Lost job to Vilma
Nate Wayne - Philly - Liability against the run, inconsistent.
Chad Brown - Seattle - Cap hit is $5 million and injuries. Plus he's 35.
Derrick Brooks - TB - Due to make $5.75 million next year.

While this position is certainly not a priority on the shoppers list, we do need someone to man the middle. Until I see Hayes do it, I'm not sold on him. MLB is all instincts. Sometimes Mac's got em, sometimes not. Whenever we get gashed up the middle, you can almost always count on it being because Ronny Mac hit the wrong gap or was late getting to the right one. Even though Chad Brown has some injury problems, if we can get him cheap, that would be great. He has great instincts and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Another interesting one would be Edgerton Hartwell.

The way Hayes has played on special teams, I think he'd do just fine in the middle.

ST really doesn't indicate how good his instincts are(See Mike Stone). The MLB has a split second to pick the gap they need to hit. If anything, I'd like to put Darling in the middle because he's bigger and put Hayes in his spot to see how he performs at OLB.

we'll need someone next year - either thru FA or the draft - if Ronnie Mac isn't resigned. I hope Hayes can start inside but we've yet to see any real evidence that he can. We'll still need a backup though, assuming Darling stays outside.

If we end up with a top 4 pick.......you can count on Green drafting Derrick Johnson from Texas as the next WLB. Darling would become the back up for both the WLB and the MLB position which will be Hayes' next year. Mac will be gone.

Hayes will become an awesome MLB. If we had Dansby and Johnson as the SLB and the WLB, we would have the strongest LB's in the league (as a group).

Other than Bell, Petersen, and Brooks none of those names don't really stand out. I think Petersen and Brooks would probably want more money than the Card's would be willing to pony up, considering all the other needs on the team. If we draft high enough, I'd love to see Green take Derrick Johnson, he just won the Nagurski award for best D player in the country, and is the favorite for 3 other post-season awards. He reminds me alot of Derrick Brooks. I still don't think Green will draft him because of the way the offense played this year, but the guy is a stud.
