We have had these types of games in seasons past only to fall flat. I truly believe this is a HUGE game. If the Cards can win this game they will have overcome several things that have dogged this franchise for a long time. First they will have won consecutive games (4 in a row going back to last year). 2nd they will have established a pattern of beating teams they are supposed to beat and not playing down to the competition. 3rd they will have started the season out strong instead of tanking the beginning and playing catch up the rest of the way. A victory on Sunday would show a tremendous amount of progress in Cardinals land.

I don't know. It will show progress to us, but I think that anyone that doesn't drink the koolaid will just chalk us being 2-0 up to it being the Dolphins and 49ers.

Yep, it's just the type of game the Cards have laid a big ol' egg in many times in the past. If we win though, it'll just lead to even bigger "statement" games. :iwin:

Bottom line is that we need some sort of cushion heading into the latter part of the season, where it starts to get difficult. If we are 6-2 midway through, I think that will be the indicator that this franchise has officially turned the corner and is ready to be competitive

Guy's every game is a "STATEMENT GAME," when you only play 16 games in the regular season. Come on guy's...!!! Give us all a break.

more important, they will be 2 games ahead of two NFC West teams (STL will lose) and one game ahead of one team (SF or Shucks)

Agreed..My point is that this is the kind of games the the Cardinals would lay an egg in in seasons past. A win here will tell us alot about this team...

Jtts, you have fallen into the trap again. We do this nonsense every year. This is not a "statement" game. It is game 2 of 16. We need to win at least 9, maybe 10, to make the playoffs.

Statement games often become identifiable only after the fact, or after the season is complete.

As Cardinal fans we have a strong tendency to live in the Past...

BUT I have seen enough GOOD things happen in the past (2) years to KNOW that beyond any shadow of a doubt we're moving in the right direction. ...And QUICKLY!! So, while I expect to WIN Sunday, if things go KRAZZY and somehow we don't, I also KNOW we're perfectly capable of stealing one back by beating Dallas. ...And I totally believe that when this year is over, we're going to look back and say, "WOW". We were pretty darn good this year". Can't wait for 2009 when we'll be even better! GO CARDS!! WE BELIEVE!!

Were you trying to make a statement with that post?

Naw. Just warding off a jinx. I'm as worried as jtts is.
As am I. I was having visions of doom last week. I was seriously convinced that the 9ers would return a kick for a touchdown and recover an onside kick.

How many current players on the team have ever been 2 - 0? Warner, james, maybe Haggans, maybe Hood, .....less than 10, I'm sure. 2 - 0 is great for team confidence. Players understand 1st place in your division, whatever the record, is important. How many times did HC Whiz mention that the Cardinals were on top of the division? After only 1 game, I thought this was a challenge from the HC. "We are leading the division" A win this week, and the NFC West will, although its only 2 games, be ours to lose.

I don't think it's so much a statement game as it is a confidence game. The Cards need to use these early games against their weaker opponents to build their confidence for when they face their stronger opponents. It's those type of games that could become "statement" games. Even then, that's only if they are able to dominate the strong teams.

I agree with everyone. But let me put some black spin on this situation.

The last time the Cards played a regular season game at home, we threw up 48 points on the board. To a much better Rams team. Look for the Cards to win this one, I'm not saying it's going to be a blowout, but after this week, the experts around the league will take notice. The "pretender or contender" segments will arise and you can guess what they'll say. I'll be watching thats for sure.

This is a home game against a rebuilding team that likes to run the ball.

The offense should be able to move the ball and score touchdowns against Miami. The Cardinals should be able to jump on top early and force Miami to get away from their preferred offense of grinding it out with Williams and Brown.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals offense has been very sluggish out of the gates in the Ken Whisenhunt era. I'd really like to see them light up the Fins defense early for a change.

The real early challenge for the Cardinals SHOULD be week 3 at Washington and week 4 at the Jets. They need to win one of those, and winning both would be magnificent.

The statement will be that we win games we are supposed to win. We haven't made a lot of those statements in a long time.
