Here is the exact quote from the Pioneer Press....Mentioned as a blurb at the end of an article.

Word in Phoenix is that the Arizona Cardinals, who move into a new stadium next year, might try to buy out former Vikings coach Denny Green's contract in order to pursue Southern California coach Pete Carroll for a huge deal after the season

That's minnesota paper right? They hate Green but that seems far fetched to me, Carroll has been saying for 2 years he doesn't want an NFL job and he's going to leave USC to work for the Bidwills?

But anything can happen. Bring Bush, Leinart and White with you.

Pete Carroll as a college coach: :notworthy

Pete carrol as an NFL coach: :barf:

I'd rather stick with Green.

Are you serious?

I would do a backflip if we signed Carroll. He has to be the most highly regarded college head coach (other that Weis). If we signed him it would be a great, great day for Arizona fans.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press puts out so many rumors and most of the time they are just embellishment of other rumors they find somewhere else and call it their own.

He is serious becuase Carroll chance in the NFL in the past has been far less then stellar.

Some guys are ment to coach college and others are ment to coach NFL, and a few others are ment to do both.

I could deal with Pete Carrol.

Although I still think Denny needs more time.

I'm dead serious. He's a great college coach but not very good in the NFL.

That's true. His NFL tenure was not that stellar.

Yeah but he was a bad NFL coach. He's a good assistant, but bad coach. Carroll is the perfect college coach right now, he's got NFL experience, he's good at what he does, and he can relate to 18-24 year old kids, he's buddies with them, great for recruiting. But he's the same way with NFL players and it doesn't work in the NFL they make too much money to respect a coach who wants to be their pal, they see that, they take advantage of it.

Pete Carroll's NFL head coaching experience:

1994 New York Jets Head coach 6-10 (fired in year 1)
1997 New England Patriots Head coach 10-6 (1-1 in playoffs)
1998 New England Patriots Head coach 9-7* (0-1 in playoffs)
1999 New England Patriots Head coach 8-8 (fired in year 3)

Frankly, I'd rather have Dennis Green. If that's the best that Carroll could do with NFL teams that actually provide for their players and pay their coaches, I'd hate to see what he'd do with the Cards. Look what Bellicheck's done with the Patriots. Look at what Parcells did with the Jets. Just my $.02.

I agree. I would be pissed if we bought out Denny Green. Why? Because if we would be using that extra money that we would be spending on free agency lineman, offensive or defensive, we would be in much better shape than a new coach.

If that is what he can do with a team that Parcells took to the Super Bowl the year before...........no gracias!!

Belicheck was also less then stellar his first go around. Not every great football coach goes into there first gig and win a championship. I hope he demands we trade down for Reggie Bush as a stipulation.

Even though the Pioneer Press, isn't even newsworthy. Remember we were gonna trade Boldin, Berry, Wilson, Dansby, Dockett, and a 1st rounder for Randy Moss. :doi:

This story is not real at all.

This would be his 3rd go around.

WHAT AN AWFUL IDEA!

That would be a HUGE mistake. HUGE!

The Cardinals do that and they deserve to lose for another 5 years.

What a stupid move that would be.

We would trade down for Bush. Wow what a great deal we trade down for extra picks and still get Bush. ;)

Well then Belichecks third shot, would be Pete Carroll's 3rd shot. What more proof do you need.:)

IIRC, Carroll's MO in the pros was that he was a player's coach. i.e. soft. Possibly borderline McGinnis-style (that's just me making a wild assumption). While I'm not a huge fan of Denny Green's authoritarian approach, I wouldn't want to see the pendulum to swing all the way back the other way again.

Charley Walters is known for writing stories that have absolutely no truth. He is not credible.

We were just burned by Jim Rome

He brought up the rumor and asked why despite the fact buying out green is a good idea, he would possibly leave the best job in college for the worst job in the NFL. He then joked that maybe 0-12 Temple could make a run at Pete if the Cardinals don't land him.
