NO< NO, NO, NO, NO, Nyet, Noda, Green needs more time. The Bidwills will never spend monmey to buy out a coach who is building a program just to pay a guy that is not proven.

I wouldn't want Pete Carroll only because anyone leaves the situation he has at USC for the Cardinals must have mental issues. He basically already is the head coach of an NFL team in a bigger market than Arizona.

And I think Green deserves another year.

Plus he can play that college-girl / distinguished-college coach thing...

Rome Is Burning

I flipped on TV this pm to Rome is Burning. It was near the end of the program and a picture of Denny Green was on the screen. Rome was commenting why would Pete Caroll leave his job for the worst job in the NFL? Then he was off to another subject. Anyone see this? What was this all about?

He was trashing us again. Did it on the Jungle. Basically, Rome has developed a dislike for Green in the last year. Been on him ever since he benched McCown last year.

This is the paper that had us trading our whole team and draft for Moss and/or Bennett...

They are idiots...

The article about Dennis green is gone on KFFL...It didn't last more than like 5 minutes on there...I wonder if it was a false report

All you have to do is look at the track record of Cardinal head coaches for the last 30 years to substantiate that the job is the worst head coaching job in the NFL. It is the graveyard of NFL coaching careers. No career winning record by a head coach since Coryell who left after the 1977 season. That is quite a record for futility. Prospects for success are not great for a head coach based on past performance.

I dont think you have anything to worry about. Check me if I am wrong but I do not think Bidwill has ever bought out any head coach's contract. It is against the Bidwill model to pay a lot of money for someone to not coach.

What about Ryan fired after only 2 years? Tobin was fired after 7 games of the 2000 season, Stallings with 5 left in 1989. How did those contracts end up. Did the coaches all resign so Bidwill didn't have to pay them for not coaching? OU Bud Wilkinson didn't finish the '79 season either as Larry Wilson took over but I'm fairly certain he resigned.

There have been a number of rumors like this. Someone must be planting them. Looking at the situation here are some possibilities: Green may have more power than any previous coach but he does not have nor will ever have control of the purse strings. He is given a budget and must work with it. Green may have hired more experienced coaches last year and he may have picked up some decent FA's he wanted but it could have been the Bidwill budget was not enough to do this. In the business world it is likely Green already has an idea of his budget for next year. He may have looked at it and decided it is not big enough to make the necessary changes to make this a competitive team. He is not a poor guy by any means and if he feels he is not being given enough money to turn this team around he could very easily have told the Bidwills I need more money or I would like to negotiate a buyout. He is not the kind of guy who wants to just hang on and after 5 years end up with a 4-12 team. He or his agent could be planting these rumors. The Bidwills could be planting rumors (I do not think they are that sophisticated). All this is pure speculation on my part but when you see several rumors like this it is not by accident. We would all like to think the Bidwills will spend a lot more money next year as the CAP goes up but it could be just the opposite. You just do not know when it comes to this family and the way they run their football business.

I'm dead serious. He's a great college coach but not very good in the NFL.

The best coach the Cards ever had came straight from San Diego State. He brought along with him one the best coordinators we have ever had.

I agree. I would be pissed if we bought out Denny Green. Why? Because if we would be using that extra money that we would be spending on free agency lineman, offensive or defensive, we would be in much better shape than a new coach.

I would suggest if we were to buy out D. Green it would be at his request. He may have had enough to see that he will never have enough money to get the FA's and coaches he would like.

Charley Walters is known for writing stories that have absolutely no truth. He is not credible.

Even bad writers have some sort of source for their rumors. Rome is Burning had the sam rumor today. You start getting enough of these and someone is planting them and for a reason.

On the flipside, last time this "rumor" circulated, the Cards beat the hell out of the Rams.

If they do the same to the 49ers, I'm going to find a way to get this rumor circulated every week. Us Card fans may have hope yet! :biglaugh:

Cardinals | Green may get bought out
Fri, 2 Dec 2005 11:26:25 -0800

Charley Walters, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green may get his contract bought out at the end of the season so the team can pursue University of Southern California head coach Pete Carroll.

Oh God, please NOOOOOOOO!!!!

Does anyone remember how awful Carroll was as an NFL coach???

Look, some coaches are geared for college, and some are geared for the pros. Rick Pitino is a great example. June Jones is another.

Keep Denny and let's give this some more time!

Sorry, I have to disagree. Rumors in pro sports are constant. Rumor mills are always churning, and only a small percentage of the rumors turn out to be true.

Good points. I am not sure if they were paid after they left. If fired they probably were still paid. Thanks for reminding me of these occurences.

John you are kidding yourself. Of the internet age all it takes is one rumor be it real or not real and it will spread like wild fire. It is not a bunch of rumors in this case it is one rumor that media outlets latch onto and call their own.
