Who is our 4th OLB? Not a person in the world can make the argument that Mark Washington showed more then Cody Brown in Camp or Preseason.

We going to carry 3 and hope for Schofield half way through the season?

Personally I smell a lot of 3-3-5 with Wilson coming up in the box. I think maybe we are going to carry 5 safeties now given the cuts we've made so far.

I think, Joe, they may be holding onto Tom Pestock. I noticed he's been on many STs even at the beginnings of games. And that's usually a good sign for players sticking.

Pestock has been cut. It was in the same text from KTAR, but not mentioned in the thread title or original post.

As for both Baggs and Cody Brown...is there a trade in the works?

Mark Washington was worse than either one of them. And he and Will Davis are the only two backups left.

Maybe they are moving Money Mike to edge rusher?:D

Is there a complete list, AJ?

I bet Pestock lands on the PS and they keep 8 OL on the 53 man.

Take Will Davis for example, he has shown just as little as Cody which is nothing this offseason but Davis shows some fire.

When it comes to outside linebackers a lot of it is to do with presence and attitude. You have to be all over the field getting in the faces of the lineman and quarterbacks making sure they notice you so that they have you in the back of their mind all the time. Brown is far too mild i think and is too quiet on the line of scrimmage. This make him and easy target for the offensive line and will make him very easy to neutralise.

He actually showed flashes of fire in his days at Uconn but i was always a little unconvinced by us picking him in the second.

That's a very insightful thought, Dew!

The Cardinals haven't released anything. This is just what's leaked out so far. It's not impossible the text will turn out to be wrong once the Cardinals make their official announcement.

I think with Cody it was more about mental then anything else. Just didnt seem to have the fire coach looks for. Coach wouldnt have given up on a pretty much a rookie at this early stage in a pass rushers development if he saw some fire. Take Will Davis for example, he has shown just as little as Cody which is nothing this offseason but Davis shows some fire.

Not to mention Davis showed some flashes and performed well at times in actual regular season games last year.

Surprised on Brown but I do agree he didn't do much last night to make his
case.

Won't be surprised if he makes someone else's roster and winds up a good player at some point but it's a sign that we're talented that he didn't make our roster.

who was the 3rd rounder cut? Did we cut Roberts?

I think he means Buster the year prior.

From last years class already gone or 3 of the players we drafted. Thats faster then usual.

Would we make a move for Justin Hartwig? He's on the outs in Pittsburgh, apparently. Upgrade over Sendlein?

2009 draft class:

hits: Wells (1st), Toler (4th), Davis (6th), Hyphen (7th)
unknown: Johnson (3rd)
misses: Brown (2nd), H Johnson (5th), Canfield (7th)

Isn't that more like other successful teams though? As your roster gets more and more veteran talent it gets harder for draft choices to make the team.

In general yes but Brown getting cut is a big fail.

Guys picked after him include Shonn Greene, Michael Johnson(the DE), Mike Wallace, although to be honest right now there's not a lot of guys on the list who jump out as man that guy is way better than Cody was, not like we missed a stud by picking him at least not yet.

After I made that post I did think about it and no matter how strong the roster it is still odd to have a 3rd round and then a 2nd round pick cut without ever playing a down in regular season. Hey, but at least we didn't sign Antonio Bryant.

Cody being cut is disappointing, but it's tough to gauge the DE to OLB transition. He also looked absolutely lost out there.

Still, cutting a second rounder who was never on the regular season roster is tough. All these UDFAs working out is great, but missing on 2nd and 3rd rounders can really come back to haunt you.

As for Herman, meh. But he was the second highest OL pick in Whis' tenure. I guess that's one of the reasons the line is struggling.

What is concerning is that for a 3-4 team, being able to gauge a college players ability to make this transition is a necessity. If we continually fail to identify college rushers who can make a transition to playing outside at a linebacker spot, our pass rush will never be good enough to support the d line and secondary.

We'll have another crack at getting it right with Schofield next year, I would imagine.

Losing Calvin Pace didn't seem so bad at the time, but we've had a heck of a time replacing him. We better hope Porter and Haggans stay healthy this season.

But many here think replacing OLB's in the 3-4 is easy!!! :bang:

We're definately needing some youth that can bring it off the edge given the age of Porter/Haggans.

Actually Bucky it's the WILB spot that is easy to fill. The OLB spot is really tough. Which is why it was a mistake to let Calvin Pace leave. 6'4" 265 and has proven that he can play OLB in the 3-4.
