During last Sundays' ESPN Pre-game Cris Carter, who I normally pay attention to, said we were a FINESSE' team. Now, to me, Finesse means a team that is basically "soft" and wins by schemes, mis-direction, etc. BUT...I just DON'T see that! I see Timmy H. slashing thru the line and Beanie rumbling over people. We've averaged what?? 125+ yards running the ball the last part of the year. 150+ against the Packers. Fitz' and Q are BEASTS. I also think Stevie Wonder is deceptively strong and agile and Early Doucett didn't shy away from contact this past Sun. either. Now, I know we're a passing team 1st... BUT...Kurt's tough as nails hanging in there till the last possible second...And DD on D?? Finesse'?? MORE like rampaging bull about to blow up your pretty play! I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Are we a FINESSE' team?? I DON'T think so! GO CARDS! Mark :)

No, we're not. But, that's the automatic stereotype that good passing teams get labeled with.

I can see where Carter is coming from becuase honestly it depends on which week you are talking about. Our team is bi-polar.

I think we are slowly changing. When Warner leaves you will see Whis having this team playing smash mouth.

When I see db's falling backwards before Beanie bowls into them, Ben Patrick knocking a db 3 yards backwards, Boldin smashing into anybody and everybody, Doucet diving into the endzone and his nelmet flyng off, no. The nice thing about it is we CAN be finesse OR physical.

After watching us score 51 points against the best defensive team, I can never again agree with anyone calling us a finesse team. With our offensve now we are a power house to be reconed with!

MESA! :thud:
Finesse:
1 : refinement or delicacy of workmanship, structure, or texture
2 : skillful handling of a situation : adroit maneuvering
In some ways I do. Our offense is oft-described as "precision". I would say that falls into the category of "finesse". I don't take it as an insult.

I think we are a power Finesse team...... I guess that is how we should look at it.

We throw the ball all over the place on offense, and we are a little small but fast on defense.

That being said our WR's are huge, physical and run like RB's. Our RB's run with power, and Wells is an absolute beast.

Our offensive line is a mix of big and powerful, and small and quick. Same goes for our DL.

It is tough, we are kind of in the middle but I think that is our strength, and I think it is what is going to give us the edge against the Saints.

We're a smashmouth passing team. A pass-first team with a run-first attitude.

The team -- on offense and defense -- plays fast and hard on every play (even if they're sometimes out of position).

The Cards are a finesse team. Sure they finally have some power running and a couple of tough running receivers but overall they don't blow people off the line of scrimmage and the defense is not physical at all. In fact the defense hardly even tackles anybody much less knocks them on their rear.

The D is quick and athletic and so they can cause turnovers. But they are never going to get any accolades for being hard nosed except for Wilson and even he has backed off because of the personal foul calls over the past few years.

So would Carter call the 98 Vikings finesse?

So what's wrong with having a finesse team that has won 23 games over the last two seasons including a 4-1 postseason record and has rung up a combined 900 yards in two games against the best defenses the NFL has to offer?

This isn't figure skating. There are no style points. Just who has the most points at the end of the game. Like we say in golf it's not how it's how many.

Oh I agree but my point is I don't think they call us a finesse team as a compliment I think they're saying we're not "tough". My point is I think we're as tough as the '98 Vikings were but I would bet if you asked Carter he wouldn't call the 98 Vikings a finesse team.

If we are, don't tell Q, Hightower, or Beanie..they didn't seem to get the memo. Unless running over people is considered to be a "finesse" move now.

Yes. But the Saints are more of a finesse team.

The Cards did not beat the Vikings or the Giants with finesse. No, they are not three yards and a cloud of dust, but they are not exactly mamby pamby.

This team is not even close to finesse. They have guy on this team that lay the wood and are VERY physical. Just because you throw doesn't make you "finesse"

Yeah a "guy". Adrian Wilson.

The Cards are not physical at all on defense. They have some offensive players who are physical compared to other offensive players but tough and physical overall. Not Arizona.

They win because of the tremendous timing of the passing offense and the athleticism of the players on defense. The addition of Beanie Wells has made them less of a finesse team than they were last year but they're still more about scheme than power.

Bull. Dockett brings it and is not Finesse. Rolle is far from a finesse player IMO. Campbell is not Finesse. Dansby not Finesse. Hayes when helathy and his normal run stuffing self is not Finesse. Branch and Watson are NOT Finesse.

Totally disagree, especially Campbell and Dansby. Rolle, he bounces off more people than he tackles. Watson and Branch are definitely a product of the scheme. Branch couldn't even play until Whis & Co. put him in the right spots.

Sorry, these are athletes, not tough guys, its why they struggle when they go back east and play power teams in less than perfect weather.

But again there is nothing wrong with the way they play. Especially in the NFC West. The 49ers play more physical and they haven't had a winning season in 7 years. The Rams have some tough, physical guys and they can't win 4 games a season.

NOTE: I'm talking in terms of NFL tough not compared to normal human beings. Of course almost all our guys are tough and physical people. Otherwise they wouldn't be in the NFL.

Nope. There is a reason guys like Dansby force so many fumbles over the years. its not from being soft While Rolle will take some bad angles and miss some tackels at times I have seen him lay the wood. Guy can and does bring it at times.

How at all do you figure Campbell for finesse? Notice you didn't comment on Hayes?

Or how bout I'm right and your wrong? ;)
