One name- Ron Wolf the GM when Holgrem was coaching the Packers. I use to value Holgrem's opionions but it seems to me more and more obvious that Ron Wolf knows more about players than Holgrem. I honestly feel that Holgrem is on just about the same hot seat as McGinnis this coming season or probably even more so. What has he to show for for making all the shots with the Seahawks? Really noyhing at all. Holgrem is one of the better minds in football but certainly not the end all on how much Holliday may be worth, especially to the Cardinals. I support going after Holliday hard and hope the Cardinals can pull it off.

Coach Mac on the hot seat? I get the feeling from the Cards that they are committed to him for the long run. I know his contract is up in 2 years but I think he will get an extension. Who else would we have coach this team? I don't think there is a better coach out there for the Cards other than Mac...

I like Coach Mac too

I think McGinnis is a good fit but football is a business and this organization has not had much patience in the past, another dismal season and he could be in trouble.

Jet- Holmgren's opinion was the topic. So what was his opinion? You omitted it.

His worth as a pass rusher

Holgrem and the Seahawks seem to view Holliday as not a valid enough pass rusher on their RE position and don't believe he is worth the money he is asking for. The point I'm making is that Holliday should be viewed on what he can give the Cardinals and not go off of what the Seahawks feel he can give him. I guess I'm guilty because I might have unjustly attacked Holgrem for his value to the Seahawks. I just feel like making a point if people think we overpaided him if we do sign him after the Seahawk brass didn't want to pay him. All the organizations are blowing smoke screens this time of the year and the only way to gauge interest is by the hard fact of the money put on the table. The Cardinals are doing it and the Seahawks are not at this point in time.

I never followed the Pack nor Holliday that closely, but I seem to recall that at least in his first couple of years, he was considered a pretty good pass rusher.

Seems to me that what's important isn't so much what Holmgren thinks (or what he says he thinks) but what our own eyeballs tell us.

So - who out there has watched Holliday over the past couple of years and how do you rate him (a) as a pass rusher, (b) as a run anchor and (c) as an all purpose DE who can do a satsifactory amount of both?

I think the FO fully understands the hand Mac was dealt last year. I think the ownership is fully commited to Mac and they are doing all they can - for once - to give him all the firepower possible. I would not be surprised to see Mac get an extension this year and continue the job of building this team.

Mac is a great coach, very popular in the locker room and Valley, and widely respected in the NFL. He will get this turned around and moving forward.

I would say (C)

I too have seen limited amounts of watching Holliday but from what I have seen and what The Sporting News and other publications have to say, Holliday is a solid player who can give one a little bit of both. A little of a pass rush would be better than what we have seen the last few seasons. Funny but sad, but Thompson was the only guy that seemed to get in their every once in a while when the team finally putting in more blitz packages for the LBs.

At 6'5" and 290 lbs Holliday is not what you would physically expect to be a speed rusher. He seems to be about as protypical as most teams want at LE. I think the packers even at times played him like the Cards do Wakefield, that is, occasionally even bumping him inside on certain plays.

Yes, its nice to get some QB pressure from the LE, but with a right handed QB it is harder to get to him simply because of the normal line of vision. That's why most teams play their speed rushers at RE.

Notice that many times it is a blitzing LB, CB, or safety that gets to the QB as the LE's normal primary duties are QB containment and run containment.

I don't expect that the Cards primary concern is sack numbers with Holliday. There's a lot more to it than just that.
