Holt, Ross, Cooper Cut

To sit back and constantly play the hindsight is 20/20 game is a little unfair too. (yes, we all do it I know)

I currently am batting about .500 on the issue.

I admit I thought Holt was a good pick up.

As for Ross, I was happy SOMEONE, was brought in, but had my doubts.

Plus you can pan Graves for signing these players and they suck. But at least, in Holt's situation they signed him to a contract that allowed the Cardinals to ditch him after one season and not recieve a huge cap hit.

Fair would be fair if I had gone on record as happy with the Holt signing. I didn't. I only ranted and raved about that contract. I also wasn't at all happy that we went with Ross, but I tried the 'well, wait and see' approach. We waited, we saw, we threw up, and we cut him. I will NOT give Graves kudos for the contract we signed Holt to. It helped hamstring us last year, and I won't smile and pat Graves on the back for making it easier for us to cut FA signings the next year. One, you should be willing to go for broke with the guys you sign and expect to keep them, or else why are you signing them? Two, it simply wasted a year at the position. Signed a guy to a contract that kept us from signing others who actually did nothing for us for a season, and now he's gone. Blech.

Hey, I give Graves credit on the Hood signing--better than I thought he'd be--and on the Gandy signing--waaay better than I thought he'd be. I also have to give Graves his lumps for when he does a bad job.

I think it was a good contract to sign Holt to. It allowed the Cardinals to have a wait and see approach. And now that I think about it, it puts the Cardinals in a hindsight 20/20 situation where they can say "WOW, that was a mistake, let's get rid of him".

This is a huge step in the right direction. If you remember Duane Starks he got a HUGE contract to come play for the Cardinals, and that was so big it was impossible to move or cut him until his last year. And he SUCKED in AZ

No you shouldn't and many franchises back my point. Many winning teams use franchise tags, sign players to incentive packed one year contracts. The Pats did it with Moss, Stallworth, Kelly Washington, Asante Samuels, and Troy Brown last year. The Browns did it with Jamal Lewis. It happens and I personally think it is a good way to go about things.
When it comes to Terrance Holt he sucked, but at least we could get rid of him and not hurt ourselves.

The thing about signing players, and I am guilty of this as well , is you can't sign everyone you want. This fact frustrates me all the time. T.Holt may have been our best option last year....but that is the whole "you never know what is going on behind the scenes" arguement.
Point is, it would have been nice to sign someone else <:cougheon Grant:cough:> but who knows if he even wanted to come here, and what we would have had to pay for it.

That should tell you all you need to know. They were using Blackstock at DE more often then Cooper, that right there should tell you something.

So the whole coaching staff missed the boat when they were looking for pass rush for more then half the season with the loads of injuries we had? Dont buy it. The guy is 31 and has been in the league for 6 years now, he has had plenty of chances, and has not done anything with it.

Blackstock has also had plenty of chances and whiffed every single time. I'n not saying Cooper is the next coming of KVB. Not at all. Just saying the guy is a solid serviceable spot guy on the d-line.

This is a look at Clancy's playbook IMO, nothing more. Personally, if I were strategizing against him I would just let the Cards get to an early lead. Then you can sit back and throw underneath on the "Pendy Prevent" all day.

Pendy usually makes sure the DBs back up enough not to get beat long, but glady give up 10yds for the first or 5yds with the reciever having enough room to make someone miss or smack Eric Green out of the way before they run for 15+.
