I think we can all agree that starting pitching has been the weak link this season, but when looking at what we have at the position plain and simple we have more bodies that we could ever use. Of the 10 pitchers below, 7 are already in the bigs and the other 3 are likely to be next season. I also think it;s very likely that we go hard after an ace in the offseason, so that makes 11 bodies at SP.

So my question is, if you were the GM, what do you do with the rotation? Who do you keep, who do you put in the rotation in 2016 and who do you trade etc?

Corbin
Ray
Anderson
De La Rosa
Hellickson
Godley
Bradley
Blair
Shipley
Y.Lopez

The rest are trade bait.

Question, impending FA's that have dealt at the deadline (Price, Leake, Latos & Cueto) can they still be classified as Type A FA's and cost a team who signs them draft picks or does can that designation become null since they will not end the season with their original team from the beginning of the year?

Blair or Shipley, that is what spring training is for. Cheap but solid rotation.

Now if I were KT I would...

No KT anymore, now it's Dave Stewart, Tony LaRussa, Dave Duncan, & Co., and I love the way this team can play when all the pieces click. Let these guys make their run to the finish line, gaining invaluable experience; and it is baseball, you never know, right? [emoji41] Either way, the future looks bright.

+1. This allows them to determine who are the keepers and augment them with FA's. Key is not to give away prospects in order to develop young talent because let's face it LAD & NYY will always be able to outbid teams for marquee FA's, so teams are left to overpay for mediocre talent who won't take a team to the next level.

Going into spring training the D'backs had a dozen pitchers with a realistic chance of being in the rotation. And now Godley is in the rotation and he wasn't even in the discussion.

....Trade all of the aforementioned for a AA backup catcher on the DL?

I hate to be the stick in the poop but that was more a result of lack of quality than a ton of depth.

The rotation is better than I thought it would be for sure, I thought we'd have a bottom 5 rotation in baseball. Its nice that we have all these young guys but pretty much all of them have question-marks... outside of Hellickson who we know stinks.

I think Corbin still has high end #2 stuff if he can keep healthy. Robby Ray is a huge surprise but the sample size is too small to take a ton of confidence in, obviously the minor league guys, Godley and Bradley... all are still hard to project.

And I don't think Anderson, Rubby and Hellickson are anything more than back of the rotation guys.

I see a lot of quantity and potential and not a lot of proven quality. And let's not forget the period where we had Kennedy, Hudson, Parker, Bauer, Corbin, Skaggs, Bradley and others in the system... that didn't exactly turn out as envisioned.

I agree in that none of the guys we have on the farm are guaranteed to pan out, even if they develop, injuries could derail their careers. However, I feel a couple of them should at least develop into mid to back of the rotation guys. But ARZ really needs to land an Ace this offseason to take some of the pressure off these young guys being put into roles they aren't suited for, Collmenter for example being thrown into the Ace role because they lacked a SP behind Corbin to step into that role when he went down.

The way Hellickson has struggled this season and De La Rosa's inconsistency along with Bradley's inability to rebound from that facial injury and stay off the DL we could be seeing Shipley & Blair sooner than we think.

Start looking at the ones who you think are world series winning potential pitchers. Keep those, skim two others off to stock the bullpen. Trade the rest for an ace, along with other prospects, players, and picks.

The question is, have we finally found a useful catcher? Does Castillo call a good game?

From comments I've heard and read, and from what we've seen, Castillo not only calls a good game, but is a very good defensive Catcher.

Add to that he is now our #2 power hitter behind Goldy and we won't have to choose between his complete skills and Tuffy's similar abilities behinds the plate but with weak hitting. As is the case with the other three Catchers on the roster.

Beef Wellington is a keeper . . . as lead Catcher.

In the NL only the Phillies and Rockies have worse rotations. On the bright side out bullpen is pretty damn solid.

1 ace in fa (back the brinks truck up to David Price)
2 Corbin
3 Ray
4 Bradley
5 Anderson

Wildcards

Blair
Shipley
Y. Lopez
Godley

If one of these three shoes in spring that they deserve to start, sell, that's a good problem to have.

I'd let Hellickson walk and consider De La Rosa in the bullpen

I can't remember his name, but we also have a kid who is pitching in single A that we acquired from the Nats I believe, who is supposedly tearing it up. Anyone know who I'm talking about??

RDLR can't throw 3 pitches. He would be better suited in the BP for that reason.

Hellickson gone...

My guess going into next year-

2nd tier FA (Leake, Kazmir, Gallardo)
Corbin
Anderson
Bradley
Godley/Ray
