He's hurt which, though it sucks for him, impacts contract negotiations. We should get a deal done with him this offseason, and I hope we do, but he won't break the bank like he might've done had he not gotten injured at the end of the year.

Looks like Mathieu was cyber-fighting with old friends, and a new outlet needed to try and make a head line.

To bad he has two major injuries. I hope the Cards and his agent can get something done.

love the player but just unfollowed him on twitter the other day, he posts way too much and retweets everything about himself and had turned my timeline into a HB news source instead of a football news source.

The tweet where he talks about what comes out of his paycheck is a little sad. Other than agent fees, everybody has to deal with expenses like that. You aren't going to get much sympathy when your average salary per year is over $700k.

With two major injuries in 3 years I understand why SK is being careful with extending him or writing up a new contract. If HB blows out another knee his career is probably finished. He may be very good when he is playing but his career may be very short. He has missed a lot of time in 3 years.

Negotiating contracts is never fun. My guess is that he thought it would go quick, and these things never do. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad.

Have to think with your head not your heart when negotiating especially when that player has blown out 2 knees in 3 years

Keim said this year's priority was signing HB to a long-term contract. No reason to think it won't happen.

True, but I think his point was, you're not going to be moving all your friends/family out of NOLA with that, either.

No but it still doesn't look good when you are making more money than most people will ever dream about, to complain about it publicly like that.
As far as NFL players goes, he is making towards the bottom though. That's what happens when you're a third rounder on a rookie deal.

Moot point unless this drags on toward the end of the calendar year. I wouldn't look too much into it

Yup. What a weird negotiation this is going to be. I imagine that Keim would want something similar to what they gave Veldheer — a nice signing bonus and salaries that include game-day active roster bonuses to hedge against the injury risk. Matthieu thinks that he is the next-best guy after Patrick Peterson and a legit DPOY candidate and All-Pro, and deserves money approaching the top of the CB market.

In a way, they're both right. Antonio Cromartie is playing on a deal that averages $8M per year. I think that Matthieu deserves that, but I have no idea how much of that I'd want to legitimately guarantee.

Cromartie is teamless???? So isn't he essentially making 0?

I know this hits home for Mathieu, but as soon as you bitch about how little your 3 mill dollar contract is the more of a douche you sound. Sometimes it's better to shut up.

He's been going off a bunch here lately. Bask needs to talk to him & cool it a bit. I really fear for his safety once he returns to Nawlins.
