Would the cap hit be ours or theirs?
Based on the info in the tweet, it looks like the incoming team would need to absorb that amount.

Edit: His dead cap to Cards would be $22.5 million...the $19 million in the tweet would be the new team, as that's his cash salary for 2023.

Edit #2...I see this at the bottom and never knew it about his contract. Do we know how close he is to any of these incentives, where he can just void his contract after this year? If a team is worried he may void 2024, plus they have to absorb $19 million, he may not be an attractive trade to give up anything of value.

  • Player can void 2024 by doing one of these across 2020-2023:
    - 400 receptions
    - 5,000 receiving yards
    - 40 TDs
    - 4 All-Pro selections
Edit #3...He's not close to any of the above, due to missed games from injury and suspension. He'd probably be really close to the 400 receptions, though, if not for missed games.

But, every week of the season his cap hit to the new team will go down by almost $1M, so by the trade deadline the Patriots or Ravens might be able to make a move, if they still have a decent chunk of their current space available, or if they retain the flexibility to open up some space.

Nah. He is still a great receiver and the Cards offer nothing in the way of a great QB. He will get paid.

No doubt he will get paid, but it seems he'll be paid more by Arizona. If he's traded it will probably be at the trade deadline, if he's having a good year. Numbers don't have to be great as teams know it won't be KM throwing to him early in the season.

Even with McCoy, Hop would still have very good numbers. His numbers only dropped dramatically when McSorley was at QB. And McSorley ranks right up there as one of the worst QB’s to ever wear a Cardinal jersey. Even when McCoy gets hurt, and he will, all the other QB’s on the roster will still be eons better than McSorley was at getting the ball to Hop. My thoughts are that Hop is having a Hop kind of year & is dealt at the deadline.

Yeah get rid of a WR who averages around 8 catches, 100 yards and 1-2 TDs a game so you have a better chance of losing. Hard to root for a team like that…

It's not about this year. Hop getting his #s and getting paid this year is irrelevant. He won't be around for when the team is good again. As he's not part of the future, it makes no sense to bend over backwards to accommodate him. He didn't and probably won't get traded, so the best our FO can do is make sure his cap hit stays in this season and not be dumb enough to extend him.

Its interesting because it was allegedly never supposed to happen that we suck except we have several good players spread out over a roster. The lines will be the difference. They were so ready to stink but forgot they had a mini all star team.
