hit me the moment I turned on the DBacks/Chisox game today and once again heard the insipid, tedious commentary of Ken'Let me again restate the obvious' 'Digger' Phelps. :hulk: When a color-commentator is utterly colorless, what do you call him?

And do Schulte and Phelps realize that "only 32 years old" isn't really a positive?

Well, don't call him "Digger". Many years ago, I went to college with the original Richard "Digger" Phelps (the former Notre Dame basketball coach).

To paraphrase an old saying, "Ken is no Digger Phelps." :notworthy

Hearing just a portion of their broadcast... and the innings that Kendrick came into the booth only to have Schulte gush all over him about all the "great" off-season moves and toss him "softball" after "softball" reminded me of Larry King ... only less entertaining and insightful.

Ken Phelps reminds me of ... whoever it is, I've forgotten his name... and not likely to EVER remember him.

Er . . . Jim Traber? Who screens these guys? :?

Thom Brennaman: "Trabes, did you see the sights of San Francisco last night?"

Jim Traber: "No, I sat in my room and drank."

Thom: "You didn't ride a cable car?"

Jim: "No, I didn't ride a trolley car." :doi:

Naw... Not Traber ... who is a real cut up when compared to Phelps. Have to figure that the radio execs wanted to avoid ANY hint of controversy, so they sought the most banal "color" guy available.

Me too. Or Vic Rojas. Traber at least had a sense of humor and was colorful, and Rojas was really knowledgable. Phelpsy is slightly below Rod Allen, and that's mighty low.
