I bet I know why Butler didn't want to come here, and I don't blame him. We now know that Whisenhunt wants to run the jack-of-all-trades, master of none defense. He has now stated publicly that it won't be a 3-4 or a 4-3, but a bastardization of the two. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! I love Whis as a coach, but this philosophy SUCKS. We're going to wind up...AGAIN...not being able to run either one to perfection. PICK A PHILOSOPHY AND STICK TO IT! God, do I HATE this idea. We are officially stuck with it.

Sort of like a passing game coordinator and a running game coordinator instead of ONE offensive coordinator?

The shake up of the coaching staff really disturbs me, not so much at who is gone but in what Whis is doing on BOTHsides of the coaching staff.

I am more concerned with this than the re-signing or signing of new players. I hope to heck Whis knows what he's doing.

Jeez, Stout, you are a fear monger sometimes. In an earlier Urban blog, Whisenhunt said Davis would incorporate more true 3-4 options than before but wanted to keep the ability to use some 4-3 as a change-up.

THAT is the real story.

Edit: Sorry. I lost my head. Go ahead and panic. Whisenhunt got a flawed team to a super bowl. Clearly, he's got his head up his ass. We should interpret every decision he makes as idiotic.

In other words, the same hybrid scheme that Pendy got dumped because of. It exposes us to BIG PASSING PLAYS. Evidenced by the Philly NFC Championship game and the SB!

Come on, you don't know that Davis will do the Pendergast thing and rush only 3 on some third downs or play loose stand-off zones in the secondary.

Most of you are better than this insane assumption of the worst. What gives?

Can we officially add these two observations to
Bidwill is a cheapskate and Graves is an idiot. Please advise.

Exactly. Skkorp, you know how I usually am, so you know that I've been hugely positive thus far this offseason. Whis gets a pass on me for hardly everything, including the cluster we might have on the offensive coaching staff. If Whis wants to try that, I'm for it. The problem is, not having a set defensive philosophy is a recipe for disaster. We put together a run to the Super Bowl with everyone on the defense playing at peak performance. What happened during the regular season? No scheme discipline. No gap discipline. Was this because our players just don't care enough to be disciplined or because we run a bunch of junk instead of instilling one solid defensive philosophy?

I'm sorry...blind homerism just doesn't get it done for me. If you, Skkorp, want to ignore what's happening and simply say you're for it because Whis said it, that's fine. Not much point in posting anything if you don't have your own opinions, though. Myself, I'm very confident in Whis as a whole, but I do not like how he is approaching our defense. And that's not going to change because you're disappointed that I can't just give Whis my blind support on every detail.

Yeah, I responded w/o reading the article. He says that we are going to use BOTH the 3-4 and 4-3 base looks. Probobly to be more flexable and game plan against other teams strengths better. Plus we have better depth to pull it off , IMO.

judges question your use of the word "horrific"

Horrific: adj, causing horror. The idea of running two completely different defensive schemes, which will allow us to underachieve at both at the same time causes me horror. The Russian judge gives you 0/5 for judging my judgment.

Wow Skkorp. You really wanted to let me have both barrels, huh? Well, back off. I've been incredibly positive about the team and Whis this offseason. The only person I've blasted has been Q, and he's well earned that. So I don't think running TWO defensive schemes is a good idea. That means you should mock me and pretend as if I think Whis is an idiot? Well, I think you should step off your high horse and perhaps think about apologizing. You're being rude and ignorant, and if you don't like that I refuse to give rubber-stamp approval to a defensive philosophy I don't like...well, tough.

I officially take back this statement. Overreaction, but I still prefer if we picked one or the other. Davis better be more aggressive than Pendy, though.

Another fantastic thread full of conjecture and overreaction on the ASFN. Glad we can all be consistent. :)

Conjecture and overreaction? Gee, unless our coach is blatantly lying, it's 100 percent accurate. But hey, let's not overreact

The conjecture and overreaction is in assuming the defensive scheme won't work. Whisenhunt has a proven track record of successful innovation and creativity, and someone comes in and calls this "horrific". How is that not a ridiculous statement?

1-He's not a defensive coach.
2-We've had this defense for a number of years, so I can clearly say I don't like it. Davis may make his own tweaks, but it's still the same basic philosophy. I can call it horrific without it being an overreaction.
3-Okay, I'll bite. How about if I said you're ridiculous for not thinking it's horrific? Wait, that's right...you're the only one with a valid opinion. My bad

Nope. Just tired of passive-aggressive, backhanded insults. You disagreed with me rather tastefully, and I thought I gave you a funny response. C'mon, the Russian judge agrees with me <--'10!'--Russian Judge.

'Twas funny. Did u see the wrestler? Not really sute about it. Thought it was okay when I saw it, but I like it even more a day later.
