At work with no sound, can anyone post what his comment was?

Last year he said "we need to knock the arizona out of him" in regards to Bryant McFadden. He saw on tape that McFadden was constantly turning his back to the QB and asked him "what the heck are you doing?!" and he said Arizona taught him that. Said he is a technician and it took him about a month to get McFadden's technique back to where it should be. So, apparently part of his awfulness in AZ was self inflicted.

Hopefully he can "knock the arizona" out of our entire defense.

Shzm33------Horton said that when McFadden came back to them, he played with his back to the QB, (just like he did here). Horton said that they needed to knock the Arizona out of McFadden, and when he questioned him about why he played that way, McFadden said that this was the way the coaching staff in AZ had taught him to play. I was astounded to hear that-----as I always believed that McFadden played that way on his own. I don't recall any other Az CB's playing that way.
He may be right though, because he did not play that way this year in Pittsburgh.

Thanks for that. It'll be interesting to see if he can knock the Arizona out of Arizona.

I wonder what that says about Whiz, to allow that type of attitude to go on in the locker room.

Seriously ?

Rod Hood played that way, same as McFadden, Same as Toler, Same as Brown, etc., etc.

They have all played that way. How many times can you recall a AZ DB, waving his hands blindly, with his back turned while defending a pass.

I see it vividly right now as I write this. They do it all the time.

At least this guy knows what he is talking about. Bout time.

Some of the fastest corners in the league, always getting beat deep. Make sense now.

Great interview!

Ray sounds like a guy in the mold of Tony Dunge as far as treating his players with respect and as he said "getting them to run through walls" for him. I already love the guy after this interview. Couple this interview with Kent Somers' glowing comments yesterday and I'm optimistic that with some new players, the Cardinals defense will FINALLY get respectable.

Gleaned from KTAR interview:
Quick opener: "Where's my coffee?"

What is one important thing you learned from Dick Lebeau? - "How to treat people! The players love Lebeau!"

Fanatic on technique...

Press conference announcing hire yesterday afternoon, had dinner then started into the playbook immediately last night.

Energetic and aggressive! It is my sense that this man wants to make his mark, and plans to do it here and now...

Wow like him even more now.

Please take the arizona out of our arizona cb's. I hated it. Sometimes it worked, most times it hurt.

That was a major problem last year. Teams were taking advantage of this big time.

Now if he can keep our corners away from being 10 yards deep when the ball is snapped, I might just get ecstatic.

If he believes that technique is the problem, then there is no way we would take Peterson at #5 in my opinion.

LOL. Here's for hoping.

I hope so. I like what I'm hearing so far. I pray it shows up on the field and quickly.

Maybe he can turn DRC into a true number one. We all know he has the potential. Anyone remember when DRC said after a game that he went to Toler and said that they need to play the game they used to get there, and not the game they were told to play? That mixed with the comments about McFadden say a lot.

I listened to the show this morning and heard Horton say this also. What does this say about the teaching received by our defense if other coaches have to retrain them from poor habits?
I really enjoyed the interview. Horton has passion and wants to leave his "mark" on our defense.

It will be very interesting to see and hear what Horton thinks of the current defensive personnel. He's evaluating it as we speak.

Do you honestly think he is going to come out and say what his evaluation is? I just don't see it. I am guessing that is more of an in house thing. Although I'd like to see him call some players out to "challenge" them to improve.

You're right. I don't think he's going to announce to the media his true evaluation of the talent, but I think his feelings about the talent on defense will show in our off season moves via the draft and FA when it occurs. Wouldn't in the least surprise me to see some big moves.

My guess of guys that played significant time.

Obvious Keepers: Dockett, Campbell, Williams, OB, DRC, Rhodes, Wilson

Maybe: Branch, Lennon, Adams, Toller, Robinson, Washington

Hell No: Porter

Pretty much shows the need on D: OLB, MLB, CB.

What's your reasoning behind cutting second year (to be) player Daryl Washington?

My fault. He should be in the probable group. That said he's not good enough to start on a good defense.

Not Cut but definately moved to back up. I know he's young but MLB was an unmigitated disaster and Washington's mere 78 tackles doesn't cut it. Career back up Paris Lennon isn't good enough to have 47 more tackles.

He's young so hopefully when he gets a bit more seasoning he can replace Lennon but he wasn't ready this year and I suspect he won't be better next year.

I'm sorry, did you even watch him? There were times he was the best one on the field and is very fast. He needs some proper coaching and he will be as good Dansby.
