more proof that the Nats should not exist.

Meh... it's not just the Nats... Hell, my Yankees are the leader in the insanity mess. First they give A-Roid $30 Million a year, which then backs them into a corner with Jeter who, while one of the greatest and most respected players ever to wear the pinstripes, certainly wasn't worth the $17 Million per he just received as he turns 37 years old in June!! It's all gone totally bonkers.
And worse, Cliff Lee and Carl Crawford haven't been paid yet!!! :bang:

The Werth deal is a move the Nats had to make. Which free agent in their right mind would go to the Nats on a contract that pays roughly the same? The Nats need to overspend right now in order to get guys. While it is a horrible deal it is a necessary one in order to continue their accent into relevancy.

What's funny is, the Nationals could have had Adam Dunn for a FRACTION of what they paid Werth and wouldn't budge.

Werth's immediately becomes the most rediculous contract in baseball. Now, I'm hearing Crawford's wanting $140 million. This nonsense needs to stop, but remorsefully it won't.

Some discouraging news in todays AZ Republic, Towers says that Miranda will probably be the starting 1B after missing out on Konerko. Miranda at 1B and Mora at 3B don't exactly make us the playoff contenders Towers expects to be next year. Yesterday I read on SI.com that ARZ had some interest in Derrek Lee but after Towers statement I think that ends the speculation.

Perhaps Miranda isn't the end of the world?

Not the end of the world doesn't get us into post-season.

I'm hoping that Brandon Allen beats him out in Spring Training, then is allowed to bat in the heart of the batting order to show what he can do when not hitting 8th. We know that he is a good fielder at 1B.

Hate to break it to ya, but even WITH Konerko, this isn't a playoff team in 2011.

This team is a major work in progress.

7 years 142 mil for Crawford?

That seems like throwing money away to me for some reason. I know he steals bases and all, but come on.

Steals bases, has a good OBP, OPS and plays defense at a Gold Glove level.

The Red Sox with he and Ellsbury at the top, Gonzalez and Ortiz in the middle, Youkilis and Pedoria rounding it out have one of the most dangerous lineups in baseball now.

I'd much rather have Miranda at 1st and Allen out in left field. We need some sort of production at LF. As much as I like Parra he isn't an everyday player. He needs to be coming off the bench as a 4th outfielder.

I thought so, too. Then I saw reports that they are still looking for a LF.

I'm wondering if Allen will be given a fair chance at either position. I hope so.

Supposedly, ARZ has shown interest in Xavier Nady which would be an upgrade if he is healthy.
