loved the two part episode - amber's character really flourished in her death - it really drew a lot out of many of the characters and even induced some crying from my sweetly sappy wife - i dig this program

Mark that one down for an Emmy. Maybe multiple awards.

Amen to the above. Just a great show all around. Amber still bugged me to the end, but I still found the finale fantastic.

Good opener last night - seems they are going to go a bit "heavy" into the personal/interpersonal issues this season. Or at least in the first few episodes.

Stupid DVR cut off right when Wilson was telling House that he was leaving because of him. What happened after that? Anything?

same deal with the DVR

I like this show because of the characters and dynamic - I usually detest hospital shows for being a soap opera away from medicine and going overboard with the medicine ........ where everything is a natural disaster, day after day

I like that this show has a premise that he only deals with the unique stuff and that people seek him out for that - he's also a douche, but one who does a really good job at what he does

people can learn from him, but not really get close to him - he's toxic to be around and people have to react to that

pending how they handle it I think this could work as a story line - wilson has been pretty much his lapdog for the first few seasons and now even he has reached his breaking point

You can pretty much see where this "daddy issues" thing is going. When House finds out his father is really his father (after the inevitable DNA test), he's going to need Wilson to help deal with issues he's so smugly avoided for 40 years.

Can't wait to see House taken down a notch. Then I'll regret it, because I love how he's always right.

i thought in the last episode he already did the test to see if it was his father and it wasn't his biological father i could be wrong though but i am asking? Next weeks episode looks good the lesbian looks like shes goin to get into some trouble i wonder how that will work out.

last episode recap
House sits alone with a drink on his desk. Wilson comes in, and House shows him the DNA test proving that he was not related to the man who raised him. House says that it doesn't make any difference at all, which depresses him. Wilson informs House that he spoke with Cuddy. He is coming back to Princeton-Plainsboro because House was right -- their trip was the most fun he has had since Amber died. House sadly realizes that his father is dead. Accepting Wilson's condolence, they walk out together.

One of my favorite shows, next to Dexter, The Office, Prison Break (I know it keeps getting worse, but whatever), Weeds (yes it is getting worse too and I hate Nancy) and Californication.

I cant wait to see the lesbian chick go nuts next week. This poor girl cant catch a break. The chick is gonna be dead in 15 years, leave her alone.

Kal Penn, the actor who played Kutner, received a position in the White House so he they were going to have to write him off somehow. Considering how dark the show has become, the way he was written off somewhat makes sense.

Now they can have a series of episodes to see how House (and everyone else) reacts to the situation

Kutner's death was poorly executed. There should have been at least some foreshadowing. Instead it's like one of those shows where a character develops a drinking problem in one episode.

I'd rather the death been accidental.

The show isn't about Kutner. The show is about House. This episode wasn't about Kutner. This episode (and I can only imagine future episodes) will now be about House's narcissistic need to understand why it happened.

I watched this for the first time last night because my girl is so into it. Probably not the best episode to watch for my first one... :D

The last two episodes of last season = amazing television. Before that, it was just a fun show to watch. After that, getting a bit dark as they push the envelope with the character because they really don't have any place else to go with the story arc. At some point there will be no possible way to root for House. Which, I admit, would be an intriguing way for a show to go out. Make the character so unbearable that by series end everyone wants him to die. That would be a first.

What the heck kind of position could Kal Penn have at the White House!?

Public liason

Like Gad said (and what I was trying to say before) this is all about House. He's an egomaniac that has to know what is going on at all times and he thinks he has to fix things at all times. The season finale of last year was the first time he really couldn't do anything to help and it ended up eating up at him so he took it out on everyone. This is the first time he didn't see something coming and we'll get his reaction to it. What happens next is they'll probably have an incident where he simply gets something wrong and then see his reaction to that.

The show is rather formulaic and I'm sure the writers have noticed it so they have to throw curveballs out there to further develop the characters (mainly House) which is what keeps this show interesting.

As for the foreshadowing argument, I can agree with that to a certain extent but there are cases of people having mental illness that don't really show any signs because they simply repress EVERYTHING and then it finally boils over. Its a sad reality.
