Like Gad said (and what I was trying to say before) this is all about House. He's an egomaniac that has to know what is going on at all times and he thinks he has to fix things at all times. The season finale of last year was the first time he really couldn't do anything to help and it ended up eating up at him so he took it out on everyone. This is the first time he didn't see something coming and we'll get his reaction to it. What happens next is they'll probably have an incident where he simply gets something wrong and then see his reaction to that.

The show is rather formulaic and I'm sure the writers have noticed it so they have to throw curveballs out there to further develop the characters (mainly House) which is what keeps this show interesting.

As for the foreshadowing argument, I can agree with that to a certain extent but there are cases of people having mental illness that don't really show any signs because they simply repress EVERYTHING and then it finally boils over. Its a sad reality.

Agreed on all points about the character development.

I know exactly what happened with Kuttner.

He bought the gun years ago because he was going to kill the guy who killed his parents when he got out. The guy recently died of a brain hemorrage, and that broke Kuttner.

The show isn't about Kutner. The show is about House. This episode wasn't about Kutner. This episode (and I can only imagine future episodes) will now be about House's narcissistic need to understand why it happened.

Couldn't this episode also be used to teach the audience a lesson. In most suicides, there are no answers. No one is to blame and no one can make sense of the situation.

That's what I took. House always needs to solve the puzzle, but this t8ime around, they wanted it to be a puzzle with half of the pieces missing. This probably will drive house to madness since he is so used to winning.

In the end though, I felt it was horribly delivered. I would have much rather it happened at the end rather than the first 15 minutes.

Surprised there's not a single post in this thread during the previous season. Anyway, this has got to be one of the funniest shows on tv currently and one of the better ones overall. The scene in Wilson's office where House was trying to convince Wilson that he and Cuddy were together was classic.
